2003 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A car for passengers

Faults:

Low miles, so no faults.

General Comments:

Comfortable and quiet with plenty of room.

Handling poor, totally underpowered and full of electric gizmos that add nothing to the ownership experience, but make very poor ergonomics. Cheap cabin.

2003 Citroen C5 Break 2.0 16 V from Netherlands

Summary:

A good family car which needs a lot of improvement on reliability

Faults:

The rear window-lock had to be replaced.

The indicator didn't work after 2 weeks.

The left-side rear door lock wouldn't open and the unit had to be replaced.

The radio/CD/telephone unit could not be turned on after a fuel-stop on the motorway, resulting in a 700 mile holiday trip without music or traffic information.

The parking assistant didn,t work. A week later it was miraculously functioning again.

There appeared a crack in the wind-wiper liquid container. It had to be replaced, which cost us a day of our one week vacation in Austria.

The brakes creak when braking at low speed.

General Comments:

A very spacious comfortable car, perfect for long journeys, but unfortunately very unreliable as far as the electronics are concerned.

The Citroen dealer service is very good.

All problems where adequately dealt with.

Well at least Citroen were up-front about it, they called it a Break, and it did.

I think that the C5 is one of the best cars that I have ever owned. The only problem has been with the headlights, while on dipped beam, illumination is very poor and has almost lead to a collision with a pedestrian on an unlit, country road.

I own a Citroen C5 Exclusive HPi, 2003 and I am having problems with (we think it maybe the fuel pump.) i.e. engine cutting out when starting up after only going a few yards. Has anyone else had same problem? Garage can't the find the problem.

Just a quick comment about the headlights flashing - mine does this too. The dealer explained it was due to the suspension adjusting the height of the car; the headlight angle also automatically changes which gives the impression of a flash. Sounds plausible!

Some of your electric problems I feel as indication for fuse-box problem.

Especially the key out and the car still running.

And with combination with the other electric problem - this could be quite true.

2003 Citroen C5 SX 2.0 HDI from UK and Ireland

Summary:

So promising in many areas, so disappointing in others

Faults:

I own an Estate and within 2 days of delivery the tailgate window jammed shut.

The radio stalk on the steering wheel did not function correctly and it took took 6 weeks to get the parts.

Shortly after this the gearbox started whining and a new one had to be fitted, but again it took ages to get the new one delivered to the dealer.

It is now nearly a year since I bought the car and it is going back next week for another gearbox as the replacement one is also making some very strange noises!

The parking sensor works sometimes, but is so unreliable that I do not use it. I intend to have this fixed when the car is in for the gearbox replacement.

General Comments:

Very disappointing as the car is a winner for style, comfort, economy and in the case of the estate great space.

Citroen needs to up its game and the support it gives to its dealers.

I have heard that a new C5 is due out in Sepember 2004 so I will reserve judgment on whether or not I would buy another until then.
