1978 Citroen CX 2000 Break 2.0 cc petrol from Serbia

Summary:

Amazing!

Faults:

Big time rust so I replaced the chassis with the Break from 1986.

A valve broke.

Latest malfunction: drive shaft had blocked due to poor oil supply on second drive shaft bearing.

General Comments:

A unique car, not meant for anyone. His steering wheel rules :) so do brakes. A mechanic hit his head into the steering wheel when he tried to brake "smoothly".

Ideal for carrying large loads like refrigerators or large TV's. Seats are very comfortable and leg space in the rear seats is amazing. Only problem is that it is very hard to find spare parts.

1978 Citroen CX 2400 Pallas C-matic 2.3 cc petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

One of a kind

Faults:

Corroded hydraulic pipe underneath split leaving pool of green fluid on the road. Was replaced cheaply by friendly independent Citroen-literate mechanic.

Carburettor gasket broke up inside, blocking fuel jet.

Top radiator hose went; bit of a nightmare to bleed cooling system as bleed nipple on top of water pump seized then broke.

General Comments:

Coming from a Lada 1200, almost anything was going to feel like a Rolls Royce, but the CX was really rather special, and for the money an outrageous bargain. Ride comfort was simply superb, especially after rear spheres were regassed, and it made an excellent motorway cruiser. Despite its age I regularly used it on 800 mile round trips to the Scottish Borders.

Very good in snow. C matic gearbox gave no trouble, if a bit low geared.

Rust in the usual places.

Bits of it are probably living on in surviving examples.
