1999 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great little run about

Faults:

Airbag Light kept comming on every now and then.

Power-steering motor stopped working due to a faulty wire.

Oil light tends to come on for a while after long journeys and then restarting.

Sunroof leaked. just fiddled with the seal and is now fine.

3rd brake light started rattling so I took it apart and found cracks around the areas where the screws go, was fixed with super glue.

The rear of the car was completely smashed in thanks to a lorry. Car was twisted, but was thankfully restored.

Continuously gets bumped in car parks by big 4x4s and people carriers as it's a rather low car.

Highly targeted car for thieves to break into and yes we have had a lovely screw driver stuck into the locks and CD player was taken.

General Comments:

Rubbish speakers!!!

Noisy on the motorway when you take the parcel shelf out.

I have been told that you can take this thing round a roundabout at over 50 mph.

Basic Dashboard, but still nice.

Passenger seat is stiff so it's rather annoying when you have passengers and you need to bring the seat forward to let them out.

Metal wires in the boots seal rusted and caused for the boot to fill up with water.

Nice little car apart from the boy racers ruin them!!! with their cheap looking body kits.

1999 Citroen Saxo VTS 1.6 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great fun, but very expensive to maintain

Faults:

1) Power steering cable worn through

2) Air bag light constantly flashed

3) Car cuts out when pulling up to lights

4) Clutch needed replacing.

General Comments:

I wanted a little hot hatch and this fitted the bill. It is seriously fast and handled well, however it didn't feels safe going over 100mph. The car is fairly basic inside, but comfortable.

Great fun to drive however it cost an arm and a leg to fix when things went wrong. I promptly sold it to a mate. He still owns the car, its running well, but the air bag light is still flashing.

1999 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Offside Drive shaft failed, just after I got it home, replaced at a citroen dealership, 400 quid.

Sunroof leaks in heavy rain.

Remote locking stopped working, possibly due to above fault as sensor is in the roof.

General Comments:

I love this car... I came from an Escort which wouldn't go round corners and had lacklustre performance... I had planned to get the furio to save on insurance, but found out the VTR was cheaper to insure than my Escort... work that one out!!

OK, it has it's faults, but I can live with all of them for the handling and performance it offers, goes like stink and corners like it was on rails, my only real moan is that ABS wasn't standard in 99... I just love the look of the car, from any angle it just looks mean, even in standard form.

The interior isn't that bad either, nice seats, sunroof, albeit a leaky one, dash s functional and could probably do with a little livening up, the pedals are a little cramped, luckily I've got small feet so I can live with that as well.

Basically it's a great little performance hot hatch, will show most things a clean pair o heels from he lights, and will batter even more into submission round corners and islands... I even drove round an island at 40mph once and it didn't flinch... try that in an Escort!

Get one... you will never regret it... I won't anyway.

I'm getting mine on Friday!

Can't wait. I think I bin a couple hundred quid ripped off, but who cares, I dun care really, I found cheap insurance. I'm only concerned with the fact that theres a lot of minor problems people are getting, and I really don't wanna be goin to get it fixed on my weekend off!

I test drove it (i previously had a 1.4 306) and it was amazing! The garage was just off the M1, and it's a huge dual carriage way, I left the garage all nice and slow taking care of it, 100 yards down the road, foot to the floor and WOW!!! I'm 6ft 3, and my heads just off the roof, I don't know whether the seat was at the bottom of the floor or not (couldn't work out how to change it!) but I'm not bothered, it was comfy enough for me, better than 306 springs in your back! The handling was most impressive, a full roundabout I slung it round about 50mph and all you can hear is the car screaming "IS THAT ALL YOU GOT!!!" AMAZING simply AMAZING.

I'm not a boy racing Ch-av (spell checker) by the way people, the friendly car salesman said I would go far in management with my direct approach of "12 months tax MOT and £100 off an I sign the papers today". Gotta love car salesmen and their "I'm not lying to get ya to buy this car". approach.
