2001 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Buy this car, it is an old design, but it is so much fun

Faults:

Apart from a spate of thefts, including wheels, stereo and aerial, nothing particularly has gone wrong with this car.

The speaker trims do rattle, which is probably a lot to do with the loud music they are subject to.

Oh the straps to the luggage cover are really fragile - I'm on my third one.

General Comments:

This car makes driving round town FUN.

At legal and safe speeds you feel as though you are driving in a rally, taking corners with vim and vigor, accelerating away from the lights, all those silly boyish things, without any damage to your license.

You feel everything in the car, the steering, the road, the brakes, everything. It is marvellous.

I regularly drive on motorway and find it totally acceptable, it's not a comfort car, but it makes you concentrate on what you are doing.

One word of caution, invest in small shoes. I'm a size 11 and there ain't much space round the pedals.

I have test driven a new BMW Mini Cooper as I am due to replace the VTR. The mini has nothing on the saxo for drivability, OK, it is built like a brick, but there is no fun. I won't be buying one.

2001 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6 8v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

It's the dogs swingers

Faults:

Thank fully I have had nothing go wrong with this car at all.

General Comments:

I purchased this car from new from Arnold Clarke in Armadale (Scotland) and I have had quite possibly the most fun I have had in any car (Without a woman).

This car can take corners like it's glued to the road and leave others standing like skips at lights once you have got used to the clutch.

In my opinion it's quite possible one of the easiest cars on the market at the minute to modify and the choice of parts are endless.

I also have a VTS as a company car (incase any VTS owners pipe up)

2001 Citroen Saxo VTS 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Faults:

4 Wheels Valves replaced at 6000 miles due to metal valves I fitted rusting on over the Winter. (forgot to check them) Clip on wheel weights replaced with adhesive ones which keep falling off. Citroen say the clip on ones on the rim of the wheel can't be replaced the first time the wheels are balanced. Why not?

General Comments:

Excellent performance and handling.

Pedal area cramped, but I got used to it within 2 weeks, though at first I kept hitting throttle going for the brake which is disconcerting. It requires a different style of driving from larger vehicles.

Leg room not as bad as I'd feared. I'm 6'2" and have no problems fitting in, though don't expect your legs to fit under the wheel if you're over 6 foot.

Reasonable Fuel Economy- 33mpg Combined.

Brakes could be better, but stop OK, requires a firm push though from speed.

Interior excellent and good standard Equipment levels.

2001 Citroen Saxo Desire 1.1 Desire from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A whining success

Faults:

The gearbox is whining when in higher gears.

It is very irritating, especially when the garage cannot find any fault with it.

The headlamp is not in line with the body work.

General Comments:

It is a nippy car for a 1.1 engine.

But it is a shame the whining spoils it.

Maybe the gearbox becomes quieter after running in. Otherwise it is possible to put some additive in the gear oil (a f t e are running in).

2001 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6 8v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An excellent bargain that performs brilliantly

Faults:

Nothing at all, touch wood!

General Comments:

I haven't had my car very long, but I love it to bits, I had a 106 quicksilver before, but the saxo is so much better to drive, the performance is great, I never realised how fast they are, even my boyfriend loves it and he only likes fast cars!! The handling is absolutely fab and the car itself is so quiet, I definitely get another one.
