1999 Citroen Xantia 1.8 16v from Portugal

Summary:

Comfortable

Faults:

Not a single problem since I bought it.

General Comments:

Very comfortable, feels like riding on your home couch, but still feels very safe, like you have the control all the time.

Brakes very well, and you get almost total silence in the cabin, even at speeds higher than 120km/h.

1999 Citroen Xantia LX 1.8 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Very good car

Faults:

I have only had the car for a couple of months, but it has been a good car.

The only problem I have is that my wife suffers with fibromyalgia, & sometimes getting in or out of the car can be quite difficult for her. To solve this problem, all I do is before she gets in or out is raise the level of the suspension, then lower it when she has got in / out.

All in all, a good car for the money.

General Comments:

The seats are starting to be a bit soft now

1999 Citroen Xantia SX 2.0 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Seems a good buy, but time will tell

Faults:

I bought this one recently to go to and from work since my Renault RX4 isn't the most economical vehicle on runs like this.

When I got the car I found that the remote-locking key wouldn't work. Replacing the battery in the key had no effect. I now suspect that a replacement key unit is required, but I can live with locking and unlocking it manually at present.

There is also a strange smell of coolant coming through the ventilation when the heating is on. I have checked the radiator, cooling system, heater matrix etc and found no sign of any leak. I'll just have to keep an eye on it and see if it changes with use.

Boot operating button also a little on the stiff side, and sometimes requires a swift whack to get it to return to the correct position.

General Comments:

A much lighter car than the RX4 which I am used to, and hence I've been impressed with the acceleration and general manoeuvrability. The mirrors are a lot smaller than the Renault's, which took a little getting used to, and the rear spoiler means that reversing into parking spaces has to be done quite carefully.

The seats are extremely comfortable and the general driving position doesn't cause any aches and pains.

Being used to Renaults, I found the controls took a little getting used to, but it all got worked out in the end.

My only real gripe is that the stereo controls are mounted on the steering wheel rather than on a stalk as in the Renault. This means that they are a little difficult to operate unless the wheel is in the dead-ahead position.

Hi, the problem with your remote key unlock and unlock can likely be solved by inserting the key into the ignition and starting the vehicle. After doing this, push both the lock and unlock buttons on the remote. This resets the key unit. At least that is the case with my Citroen C5.

1999 Citroen Xantia SX 2,0i-16v from Norway

Summary:

Comfortable and reliable bargain

Faults:

The headlight-washer on the passenger side doesn't work.

General Comments:

Here in Norway we do have a rather cold climate in the winter time - it's not uncommon with -15C degrees and lots of snow. And this is where the Xantia really excels - it's reliable and easy to start when really cold, it heats up pretty fast and it handles brilliantly when the road surface is slippery.

It's comfortable, quite fast (135 hp), reliable and well equipped. This is a used-car bargain!

1999 Citroen Xantia SX 1.8 from Gibraltar

Summary:

Magic carpet ride

Faults:

In 5 years of ownership absolutely nothing went wrong with the car. The rev counter got stuck once, but a new battery sorted that out.

The seats had started to show slight signs of wear after 5 years.

General Comments:

Not a quick car, but handles like it is on rails with its Citroen hydraulic suspension. The most comfortable and spacious car you can buy in its class.
