1993 Citroen ZX Furio 1.8i petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

OK til about 70k, then a broken con-rod smashed the engine to bits. Expensive.

The car had been regularly serviced.

General Comments:

Excellent handling, rear wheel steer really works, not as fast as it looks though.

Very poor visibility in wet and/or dark, poor headlights for a car of this performance, single windscreen wiper is just a joke, grannies in Maestros overtake me in the wet on twisty roads!

Seats designed to look good (a la Recaro) but give no support. Steering wheel is annoyingly offset to the left of the centre of one's body.

Nice stereo.

I had a gran like that, once.

1993 Citroen ZX Aura 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing until the 3 year lease was nearly completed. It was then called back to have the fuel regulator recalibrated. This took a few days. Mileage was approx. 30k at this time.

General Comments:

The build quality is not 100%, with trim rattles that annoyed.

However, the car handled very well, and the performance from the turbo diesel engine was very good, although the low rev limit could be annoying when pushing it (rev limiter cuts in).

Note : the fuel consumption figures can mislead. Although you can get 40+ mpg, if you use the turbo power continuously, consumption can drop to low 20's.

Practical car, and well equipped at this level.

I've had my 1992 Aura Diesel since 1995 (30k miles). Mileage at 3/01 is 123k miles. I've never dropped below 40 mpg and regularly get 48/49 mpg. All high speed motorway miles. I don't think these figures are untypical or misleading. II suggest your 20 mpg is not a driving style or turbo issue - more likely that the injector pump is still not set correctly. Hope you get it sorted out. All the best.

I have a 93 Advantage TD. Over 65k miles the car has averaged 49mpg, mainly motorway. The exhaust is the original with 110k on the clock.

This is a great car to drive and has been virtually trouble free so far.

Probably the best car I have owned.

I've got a 1993 Aura TD with 130k miles, and I still get around 45mpg with some hard driving! Very impressed with the mpg.

It was a tricky decision to get another ZX as the head gasket gave way at 100k on my last one, but I bit the bullet and wen't for it. I just really like the drive and the performance from the TD engine!

Wow, there must be something wrong if you are only getting 20mpg on one of these diesel engines!

I had a volcane 1.9td and practically drove it with my foot to the flood on every journey and I still managed 40mpg.

1993 Citroen ZX Volcane 2.0i petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Rear brake calipers & brake discs changed at 55,000 miles. Brake pad warning light on dash no longer works.

General Comments:

Good performance especially at the top of the rev range. Fuel consumption is only about 25 mpg around town.

1993 Citroen ZX Volcane Turbo D 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Throttle Damper, Coldstart Relay, Suspension Bushes (Rear), Suspension Ball Joint. Usual tyres and Brake pads.

General Comments:

Sporty with diesel economy. This car was ideal in its earlier years. Dealer Service is quite expensive and they are not exactly focussed on the important things.

After 50,000 miles I checked the Air Filter casing and a birds nest fell out. The Air filter was never changed by the dealer. My impression is that the electrics are poor with little fuse protection. The faulty coldstart relay took out the glow plugs and part of the wiring. £375.00 !

Suspension seems overstressed in the Volcane as wear is higher than I am used to. Front suspension is rattling again but I can't see why. Paint is soft and easily marked.

1993 Citroen ZX Volcane 2.0i petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

ABS Sensors, Handbrake, Rear Brake calipers, Brake discs all round, Dashboard and Heater panel illumination bulbs.

General Comments:

I like it. One of the best all round hatchbacks I've ever tried. Excellent handling, good in-gear performance. Good fuel consumption. Only major problem is very sensitive ABS which shuts down at the slightest hint of a fault. Expensive to put right too but dealers very helpful.

Yes I agree. I currently have a ZX Volcane and it is one of the best cars I have driven. But a few niggly things have gone wrong, such as the brakes. I've heard the 0-60mph on it is 9.1secs I've also heard 8.5 and 8.0 from different sources. Does anyone have the actual facts about the speed? Just mine feels a lot quicker than what I have been told, or read. Also, can anyone tell me if a turbo can be fitted to a 1993 model, 2.0 litre ZX Volcane? Just want it to go that little bit quicker!

1993 Citroen ZX Reflex 1.9 diesel from UK and Ireland

Faults:

In the 14 months since I bought it, it has only had one oil leak from the filler cap.

General Comments:

I bought this car second hand in Sep '96 and I did about 17,000 miles from then until Sep '97. It currently has 80,000 miles on the clock and the only thing to have gone wrong is one small oil leak: which I fixed by tightening a screw! The reliability is very good, the running costs are very good (approx 45-50 miles/gallon). Of course being a diesel means it's no F1 car but having said that, the acceleration isn't bad. Down sides - noisy (diesel), comfort could be better, needs power steering.
