1995 Daewoo Espero CDi 1.8 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Pleasant, cheap with luxuries

Faults:

Door welding, simple job.

Wind-screen wiper motor 'loose'.

Alternator failure.

All quickly and easily fixed, inexpensively.

Fuel tank won't accept full capacity.

General Comments:

Acceptable performance from the engine which pulls from low revs quite well.

Lacklustre handling and ride, but this is a sedate road car and not 'fun' as such.

It's OK on long journeys, quite economical when driven calmly.

The luxuries, including a really impressive air conditioner for such a cheap car, make the car good value because the car itself is average.

1995 Daewoo Espero 2.0 from Costa Rica

Summary:

Very good options for a very low price

Faults:

Electric windows control.

Boost electric control.

General Comments:

Even at the basic model, it comes with plenty of extras which are not added in to other manufacturer's common models, such as the Tercel, Corolla, Sentra, Suzuki, etc. It's very low cost, $5000 (in Costa Rica) makes the car a good and valuable option to choose, it would take two or three times more money to buy a similar Nissan or Toyota car.

When a year goes by, definitely there is a big difference between an Espero and those, some noises here and there, not that good a body or paint, it all depends how the car is when it was bought.

Acceleration is nice, quite a high fuel cost...

1995 Daewoo Espero CD 2.0i from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Could have been a good quality car if not for the engine

Faults:

Timing belt tensioner slipped resulting in instant engine failure.

Alternator burnt out.

Several oil leaks.

Engine overheated and the head cracked on the engine.

Fuel lock failed.

Coolant loss.

Central locking always fails.

General Comments:

This is the worst car that money can buy! It has died on the side of the road 3 times, and I've only had it a few months. The only good thing about this car is that I learnt heaps about cars and their motors. Also learnt some valuable lessions...

1. Never buy a Daewoo
