2002 Daewoo Matiz SE 850 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Get what you pay for

Faults:

An injector went early on.

It needed a gearbox overhaul.

It needed a new back box.

Breaks needed some work.

General Comments:

The car has had its faults, but the faults listed were attended to by the dealer through the warranty apart from the brakes.

However the car has never let me down IE. broke down, left me stranded, always starts first time.

Passenger and driving space good for two adults and two children.

Boot space limited.

Three years servicing, three years warranty, three years breakdown cover, for a brand new car under £6000.

Not a motorway car for journeys although quite able for 850cc three cylinder motor car.

Get around 45mpg no matter what speed or where I drive.

Poor trade return.

2002 Daewoo Matiz SE 0.8 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Brilliant little car

Faults:

No faults.

General Comments:

Great little city car. 50 mpg+, zippy performance (in town), well built, fun to drive and reliable. And above all, cheap to buy.

The Italdesign styling still looks fresh, and there's remarkable space inside considering the tiny dimensions. The little three cylinder engine is willing and revvy, and although it struggles a bit on open roads, provides plenty of zip off the lights and for squirting around town.

Faultlessly reliable so far (unlike our previous dog of a Vauxhall Corsa) and far nicer and more entertaining to drive. Better handling and riding than the Corsa too.

For the price, and used as intended, the Matiz is a very difficult car to fault. I'd have another tomorrow.

2002 Daewoo Matiz SE 796 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Practical fun more like a pet

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Performs better on motorways than most road tests would have you believe. More comfortable than I had expected and is a very practical small car. Although I have only had the vehicle a short time the quality of build looks good for a budget car. The Matiz has personality and insinuates itself into your affections. I run a Ford Focus for work, a great car, but I love the Matiz more!

2002 Daewoo Matiz 2002 SE 796cc from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Nice little, compact, go anywhere, car!

Faults:

Car had 'teething problems' such as:

Faulty cable to spark-plug, causing the engine to 'short out' on one cylinder.

Faulty transmission. Gears would 'crunch & grind' moving down into 2nd and 1st gears.

Gear changing still a little stiff at times, even after repair.

General Comments:

Good handling and nice tight turning circle.

Fantastic Headlights!!

Good Air conditioning - however draws a lot of power away from the engine when on!

Fairly roomy, and comfortable for a small car. The interior is quite clean and modern looking.

Comes factory-fitted with good rather sound system.

Can squeeze almost anywhere!

I agree fully with every detail in this review. I have had several problems with my manual gearbox having sent my matiz back 5 times in the last 7 months since I bought it to be repaired. It seems fine for now.

I also had a problem with my spark leads, however since replacing them have had no trouble yet.

I also agree with your scores, and although there have been a few problems, I do not regret buying this vehicle.

2002 Daewoo Matiz SE+ 8OO petrol from Isle of Man

Summary:

A real little bargain

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car mechanically. The interior trim is prone to damage and is not particularly robust.

General Comments:

The car is comfortable and, for a vehicle of it's size, surprisingly roomy.

The performance is not anything to get excited about, but it handles well and is fun to drive.

The gearbox is a bit clunky. This may be a fault with the clutch and could be cured with proper adjustment.

The Matiz represents cheap and economical motoring. It seems well put together and is quite stylish.
