2000 Daewoo Nubira SE 2-litre from North America

Summary:

A low-cost, no resale value ripoff

Faults:

Almost immediately, caps below dashboard popped off for no apparent reason.

Front right sway bar link needed replacement ($294 repair) after two years, 29,500 miles. Front left sway bar link currently needs repair after three years, 41,000 miles.

Front door locks freeze and power locks will not function, necessitating getting into the back seat and manually jacking the lock up to open the driver's side door.

Seal around windows has deteriorated so badly that frost develops INSIDE the car on the windscreen.

Emergency brake, rarely applied except in parking-on-hill situations, recently broke and will need to be repaired.

Seats and seat belts squeak after 41,000 miles.

General Comments:

Would never purchase a car from Daewoo again, especially considering the repairs I have made took two weeks due to parts needing to be flown in from elsewhere.

Sway bar link @ 29K?

That's why you have a warranty, and even without, it would be be a $300 repair.

The link is only 35 dollars. so why 300 bucks to repair?

2000 Daewoo Nubira 2 from North America

Summary:

Too much money for this nickel and dimer!

Faults:

Little plastics caps under dash started falling off within days.

Gas mileage was much lower than advertised.

Vanity mirror broke off within a month.

Never had any get up and go! Hard to get up to speed with other traffic.

Cruise control shorts out after first year.

Auto electric driver window, which is a quick touch and the window goes down by itself, shorts out after first year.

Aluminum rims bent easily driving slowly over minor potholes.

General Comments:

In order to adjust seats you must hand crank round knobs which are too far back and hard to reach.

Rear wiper doesn't cover all of reached area.

Not an all around comfortable ride especially on long drives.

Leg room in back is not enough. Replaced by more truck room in back of wagon.

Paint job isn't well done. Easily chips if bumped.

Buttons on radio and CD player sticks for no apparent reason from first day.

The head rests are not good. In comparison to the seat backs, they are faced too far forward and aren't able to rest your head back at all. It your shorter, you have to have your head a bit tilted forward. To fix this, we had to pull out the head rests and turn them around backward and tilt them back in order to give us more head room. This done against the dealers suggestion, but comfort comes first.

Seats in front have little cushion, mostly hard.

Seats in back on outside are scooped. Person that sits in the middle back has to sit on a hump.

Seatbelt for middle back seat isn't tight and secure. Uses it sparingly for safety.

Gas mileage is bad, especially for just an occasional family car.

Aluminum rims bend easy on wheels! Expensive to replace.

View to see to drive is not great. Seats are sat down lower than average. To look around the rear to see traffic seems obstructed by panels in rear side.

With the selling of this company, we've been told by the dealer and received info from the manufacturer that our original warranty is useless, especially until the buy out is finished. We buy a car for the warranty and now we hardly have one left. Most dealers won't deal with us since they don't want to get stuck trying to sell a lemon. Their lip always curls at the name Daewoo!

2000 Daewoo Nubira SE from North America

Summary:

Not too bad overall for the money

Faults:

My engine light came on just before the warranty was up. I brought it to the dealer and the had forgotten to change a code on the computer and it was fine.

I had to replace all four tires at 58,000 miles.

The brakes and rotors went right around 58,000 miles and it took a month to get the parts in.

I need a cable for my emergency brake which the mechanic has not been able to locate since August, 2002.

The engine light has been on for the last month, but the car seems to run fine.

General Comments:

The car runs well overall.

The cup holders are in the wrong place.

Parts are hard to find.

It is expensive to have the car worked on.

I think it is a nice looking car and that is why I keep it.
