I bought the car in 1994 and now almost 11 years after its still works perfect.
The engine is very reliable and, but there are some problems with the water cooling system, too many leaks in the rubber pipes and improper maintenance causes to some parts to leak very quickly.
But I have to say that this car is really unbreakable, it can hold on forever with proper maintenance.
Built as strong as a tank!

I owned this vehicle in 1996. The dash board is really crap and it rattles, The material used in dash board is cheap.
The ball joints of the car are inferior. Air conditioning provides perfect cooling, but the vents are not designed to provide even cooling in the car. Its has a specious luggage compartment. This car would have been better graded if it had some good designed cockpit.

Excellent car for the money, but I had some minor quality problems, like I had to change the spark plug cables every 20.000 kilometers, water pump every 60.000 kilometers, and many times the steel wheels, they were too fragile for our roads.

I own a Daewoo Racer model 1996 bought in 2000. Except for that rattle on the dashboard, I think that owners should be more than satisfied with this type of car. Good maintenance is the secret.

Good news to my fellow Daewoo Racer owners in the Philippines, I just learned from a reliable source that a "casa" for Daewoo cars still exists - it's located along Sgt. Bumatay St., Plainview, Mandaluyong City (don't know the exact street number but just look for a sign with the Daewoo logo, and it's a short street anyway)..hopefully, you can find what you want there, i.e., parts, accessories, trained mechanics, etc. If you do find that place, please send me feedback about it at: geneolivar@yahoo.com.

I have a 01 Daewoo Nubira with 14k miles. Yes it's sat for a while. The valvetrain makes a constant clattering. There is no miss in the motor and it runs great. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yes I have changed the oil and all that. The guy I bought it from had a new head gasket and 7 valves put in it. Please email me back at skidplate00@yahoo.com if you have any ideas. Thank You.

I have a 199 Daewoo with the engine light on. I found out that it was the camshaft position sensor that was causing it to be lit. The good news is, there is a recall, so I'm getting mine replaced for free, hopefully the light will go off. Also, if you go to the nearest Auto-Zone or Advance auto store, they can hook up a handheld device to your car and tell you why the engine light is on, and by the way, that's free too! Good luck with your car!

Hello Daewoo lovers,
I am in India Goa. I bought a used Daewoo Racer STI Petrol Manual 5 speed last month.
May be this is this is only cars in India. The problem with this car is, the engine control light is ON. The petrol consumption is too high. It has given me just 4 k.m. per liter last week.
Can anyone help me in getting this car set right?
The idling also looks too high.
Petrol smell comes after a round, and second time starting gives problem till the flooded petrol dries up.
Please give me any good mechanics e mail id to discuss, since I am in India.
My e mail id is: avaghan@yahoo.com
GOOD LUCK WITH DAEWOO RACERS.

OK first of all, I think that you're the only one who owns a Daewoo Racer in India. Well it's a good car, but it need a lots of things to get it working properly. Here goes:
> Change the engine oil with 15w 20 (Shell brand).
> Clean your fuel injectors.
> Change your air filter.
> Get your engine flushed completely.
> Change your fuel filter.
> Get the throttle body thoroughly cleaned, along with the idle air valve control.
> Get a full coolant flush & add Castrol One with full cooling condition.
> Get an ECM reset as well, because this will help the engine malfunction light to turn off.
> Add engine oil treatment after adding engine oil.
Well up to my info, I can suggest that these things will 99% will help your car to regain its original performance. But by the way, always maintain a car's rpm below 2 or 2.5 to get its best fuel consumption. In my thoughts you live in Goa, so try to drive your car at a speed of 40 or 60 with fifth gear.
Well any other problems you have, then do post your problem here. Will get back to you as soon as possible.

I owned Daewoo Racer 1995 model. I'm in Tarlac City, Philippines. The worst problem that I encountered is the engine light on my dashboard... Is there anyone who can help me find a mechanic near in my place? This is my email: add-zyberleep200122@yahoo.com

Guys, sorry for the late reply. I was the one who bought the Daewoo Racer ex-taxi.
Regarding the dash, the reason why it rattles is that the plastics used to make it are brittle, so the place where the screws hold the dash in place breaks, and that's the problem. My mechanic had to create a brace and make new fittings so that the dash wouldn't rattle.
Anyways, after 2 years, I have another radiator problem; this time it's leaking, and the radiator costs around Php 3,400-4,000, depending on where you're buying it, so have to get a new one and have it tropicalized again hehehe :) Other than that, I haven't had to call my mechanic in over a year.
Notes on racing: Raced with a couple of cars using this car before, and believe me this is not a Racer; they should have used another name for this car.
Kia Pride CD5 - almost lost to this car
Mit Lancer 1997 with Invecs - on plain drive, it's just head to head, but using the sports mode, he gets a good 15 meter lead.
Toyota Corolla 1991 16V - Lost to it :( The driver was also pretty good.
So far 0 wins for the Racer, so depressing. My old 1979 Ford Cortina could match up to a Mercedes Benz series without any problems.
After market parts and mods:
Here's the real depressing story, so I got the car, fixed it all up. Transport Show was coming, so I bring a big wad of cash to Megamall. I was just going to buy an intake, exhaust, spark plugs and high tension wires for the car. What was I able to buy? Nothing... it seems that all the mod parts are for Japanese cars only. I kept on getting the same response from every store I went to, gggrrrr!!! Anyways, you have to get a custom made adapter for the K&N filters or any other racing filter you want to install. The exhaust is easy; you just weld it on. Spark plugs - don't ever buy the Bosch Super 4, it just makes the car less responsive and slower; the stock NGK brands are better. No high tension wires also available.
So there you have it, the car is still there, just got the air conditioning system fixed at a cost of 12k, had to get a Sanden 501 compressor for the car, and the added some stuff to make it fit in the car.
Hope this review helps :)

Dash board rattles? That's confirmed.
A very fast car if well maintained.
Higher fuel consumption as compared to other engine brands with same specs.
Underchassis are heavy duty, but parts made in PVC or plastics are brittle.
Peace and have a good day. (Recks Matibag, Philippines)
