1996 Daihatsu Charade TS 1.3 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

If only all cars were made like the Charade

Faults:

Nothing. I had the car for three years and never had a problem with it.

General Comments:

The Charade must be among the most reliable cars ever made.

As well as the freakish reliability, the running costs are low and fuel economy is great.

The 1295cc engine revs freely and generates good power.

Handling is also a strong point, with a setup which made Daihatsu a rallying force in the 90s.

The zippy engine, small size and handling make for fun driving.

These little beauties are as tough as nails and will handle anything you can throw at them.

Summary:

Reliable, zippy get about!

Faults:

Nothing. It was in perfect shape when I got it and is still running perfectly.

General Comments:

This car is very zippy for a 1.3L - very impressive.

Very economical.

A friend has owned 3 in his life time and swears by them. Most reliable car around and handles long distances brilliantly.

1996 Daihatsu Charade Ascend (G201) 1.6 efi from Malaysia

Faults:

Insufficient sealant on the front left fender (car flooded on third day of ownership).

Power steering pump leakage - noisy when turning steering wheel.

Passenger side door integrity - knocking sounds when on slightly bumpy roads.

Fuel pump failure.

Battery failure in exactly 1 year.

General Comments:

I have had problems from day 3 of owning this car (insufficient sealant and power steering problem), passenger door noises in 8 months, battery failure in 1 year and the current one - fuel pump failure in exactly 2 years. I don't recommend this make to anyone. Someone must be asleep on the assembly line and manufacturing.
