2003 Daihatsu Rocky Taft GT 2.8 normally aspirated diesel from Indonesia
Summary:
Durable without demanding much attention
Faults:
Nothing wrong with this car.
General Comments:
I really like this car.
Good fuel consumption.
The cabin is comfortable enough though not as roomy as my old Toyota.
The independent suspension gives comfort to the ride.
The engine is durable. Great torque from idle to 3600 rpm. I've even driven it on a moderate climbing road about 70 kilometers at 100 to 125 kph. and it worked really well. Even I used only the 5th gear, no need to shift down because of its great torque. When at the peak power, it runs like a locomotive and is able to chase other fast cars especially in climbing.
The sound of the engine is quite smooth for a diesel. Thanks to its indirect injection system.
The 4x4 transmission works smoothly. The gear ratio is good enough for on-road and off-road driving. I've ever let it run by itself (no driver in the cabin) at a climbing road near my house when in 4-low mode.
Because this model is popular in Indonesia, I don't have to worry about the spare parts. After all, it doesn't require much attention.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
