1998 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5L Mitsubishi V6 from North America

Summary:

I love Dodge

Faults:

When I bought this car used, it did not have anything wrong with it.

Since I've had the car, it has had some damage. The only real problem I have with the car is that it sits so low that I hit a pot hole and ripped my muffler off, and the lights fogged over.

The notorious door handle issue never affected me, until my dumb cousin ripped it up real hard and broke it. If you are easy on the door handles, they do not break.I looked all through these comments and saw door handle problems... It's really not a problem if you take care of the car.

Other than those issues, I have never had to do any work to the engine or anything else. The engine light came on one time, and coded air in the fuel lines, which can happen to any car.

Freeze plug.

Chrysler vehicles from this era were GREAT as rentals (before they hit 100k) but not good for long-term use.. Throw-away cars. Chrysler has always had a problem with getting the paint to stay on their vehicles, ever since the mid-'80's. I own a 1976 Dodge Royal Monaco and I LOVE it. Would I buy a NEW Chrysler vehicle? Heck no!

1998 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5 from North America

Summary:

I love this car

Faults:

I have had very little go wrong with this car. I recently replaced the spark plugs for the first time ever. The car gets 26 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg around town. I had to replace the fuel filter (yes that was original also) a few weeks ago.

The ball joints (or whatever they are called) on the front end will have to be replaced shortly, but I drive my car. I do not powder puff it.

I do have to replace the two front tires yearly. For those on here blaming the car for flat tires, I do not get that.

The headliner on the sunroof is coming off. I attribute that to the Texas heat and age. The door handles have had to be replaced, that was a bad design.

General Comments:

I love everything about this car. Considering the miles I have put on it and the way I drive it, it is holding up very well. I will drive it until the day it dies.

1998 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5L from North America

Summary:

The car handles well and is reliable

Faults:

Valve covers both leaked and have been replaced 2nd time in past six months.

Door hooks cracked. Door handles stick, loud movement of sunroof.

Interior lighting behind A/C and auto shifter bulbs blown.

How do you repair the lighting behind the A/C?

I saw many posts about the paint on these cars; was there some sort of recall? My rear spoiler and trunk are very badly faded, but no other parts of the car.

General Comments:

Though I have had the car only two weeks, I have already taken in for having the two valve covers fixed. Second time in 6 months.

The car handles well and the interior is comfortable.

1998 Dodge Avenger sport 2.5L from North America

Summary:

For the price I paid for it, I couldn't be happier with the value!!

Faults:

Headlight lenses have fogged.

Seem to have brake and/or rotor work done too often.

After 9 years, the clear cote finish began to peel. No big deal.. I had it repainted, looks like a new vehicle.

General Comments:

Sweet riding car.

Nice acceleration, and excellent handling. Corners well, and really hugs the road.

Real "eye catcher" Mine is black, and when it is waxed and all shined up, it COMMANDS attention on the road!

1998 Dodge Avenger Base 2.0 DOHC from North America

Summary:

Overall this is a great car for the $

Faults:

Well when I bought the car, I was informed that the head-gasket and timing chain had been replaced recently (approx. 100,000 miles).

I had to replace the power steering pump recently at approx. 108,000 miles ($230). Did it at home in the driveway.

The starter went a month after I got the car. ($300 with labor)

The driver's side power window sticks closed, and rattles when only 1/2 open.

The pulley tensioner bolt for the power steering pump was missing since bought, so the belt becomes loose every 500 miles or so, resulting in a squeak when turning.

Transmission has had a small leak since I bought the car (stupid me), and has resulted in the transmission slipping when going up a steep hill when low on fluid.

Overall, the car hasn't been that bad for a newer car.

General Comments:

This car has its ups and downs. Parts are not the cheapest, but most newer car's parts are pricey.

The car corners excellent!!! It takes corners like no car I've ever owned.

Lacks power, but is not bad for a 4 cyl. considering my last 3 cars have been V8s.

The car is just downright sexy. The only thing I had to fix cosmetically on this car was the "fogged" over headlights, which I just purchased a pair of $45 headlight covers that make the car a show stopper.

Love the 16" rims. Love the sound of the car; has great stereo stock, but I upgraded with Pioneers for the speakers and sub-woofers.

Overall a great daily driver with stunning looks, decent performance and mileage. It can tackle almost any corner, and has unlimited customization possibilities if budget permits.
