1998 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5 V6 24 valve from North America

Summary:

A sleek, and quick sports car for an affordable price

Faults:

Just the usual replacement of the brake-pads.

Only 2 oil changes.

General Comments:

The car is extremely fast, it does 150 MPH stock, right off the showroom floor.

It also handles very nicely, both slow and fast.

The steering is a bit stiff, which helps for freeway driving.

1998 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5 from North America

Summary:

A Beautiful Tease

Faults:

The material on the sun roof shade came off at 50,000 miles.

From time to time, the sunroof mysteriously makes a loud popping noise with no apparent reason.

The windows vibrate when open.

The leather seats began to crack and wrinkle at 30,000 miles, but they've yet to develop holes or tears.

The center console is slightly fading.

The spoiler, trunk lid and side mirrors are fading.

The wheels seem to mar easily, and the paint on the center cap on one wheel has completely come off.

General Comments:

Although I am disappointed with the power the car has in comparison to what I expected it to have, it really does have a decent amount of power - it just depends on how hard you want to drive the car.

This car has excitingly tight steering which helps holds the curves.

However, the actual turning radius isn't that great.

The interior is alluring, comfortable, and functional.

Not only is she exciting to look at, she's a thrill to drive!

I agree about the turning radius being poor. I also agree about the maintenance. My '98 is in beautiful condition (67,000 miles). No scratches, chips, tears, cracks, engine problems, etc. I drive everyday (but park in a garage both at home and work. My first and still current problem is the brake lights. I obviously have an electrical problem. Changing the fuse only results in a blown fuse, go figure. But beyond that I have not had any other problems in the 6 years I've owned it.

1998 Dodge Avenger Sport from North America

Summary:

Excellent car for the money

Faults:

Not one thing has gone wrong with this car. I have only done preventive maintenance. This has been an awesome car.

General Comments:

Dodge made a mistake when they stopped producing this car. Get rid of the Stratus and bring the Avenger back.

1998 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5 V6 from North America

Summary:

Better value overall that year than any other car in its class

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with this car. I have only owned it for less than a month. I hope that it stays that way.

The idiot that owned the car before I did neglected to change the timing belt. I had the dealer I bought it from do it with a little extra money added onto the price.

General Comments:

I love this car. It came with low profile tires and American racing wheels. It is also fully loaded with every single option you could get.

Although the stereo deck is mounted rather low, the premium seven speaker Infinite sound system it came with is absolutely amazing.

I love this car as well as Chrysler Corporation in general. Another great product from a great manufacturer.

1998 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5 V6 from North America

Summary:

Typical car with typical ownership pains, it's pretty average

Faults:

So far, it hasn't been too bad. The sunroof started sticking/not opening while under (extended) warranty, but the new owner of the local dealership (Gary Mathews) refused to honor the warranty.

The button to enable cruise control has ceased to function.

Leather seats are really worn.

Rims are extremely soft and 3/4 are dented. Impossible to find replacements.

General Comments:

The car handles better than expected for price range.

Interior is a bit uncomfortable.

Rims are shot. Too soft I suppose.

It is a great car to fix as a street racer.

1998 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5 V6 from North America

Summary:

Not a Viper, but woo hoo, its really close

Faults:

Well, the only thing that has gone wrong with this car is the flat tire I got from running over a nail. The car jack that Dodge provided wasn't much help seeing how it snapped before I could get the repaired tire back on. I have been fortunate in way of brakes and rotors. I see a few other people had instances with them, but hopefully I got the luck of the draw this time.

General Comments:

I absolutely love this car. I have ridden in new cars and old cars, but the Avenger is in the top 3 cars on my perfect rides list. The sound of the engine is probably my favorite thing about it. As soon as the light turns green and you see how fast the V6 burns down the road, you realize that Dodge hit the nail on the head with this car. The car begs for crazy bends and it sticks to the road like it had been super glued to it. What an amazing machine. Granted, its no Viper. However, its not far behind. Buy a Mustang? No thanks. I'll keep the Avenger and its reasonable insurance, before I break the bank for a second rate car with an astronomical insurance. Plus, with mo-par, fix or repair daily is not even close to being used in the same sentence ever. But Dodge on race day, is a sure bet.
