1997 Dodge B2500 Explorer Day Van 5.2 V8 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Absolute space and comfort

Faults:

The only problem I have had with the van has been with the battery going flat. This was eventually traced to faulty after marker relays.

Apart from changing the battery, I have only had to change routine things like brake bads and oil filters.

General Comments:

I purchased this van in the UK from a local dealer, because I wanted a vehicle with plenty of comfort.

In 2002 I drove through The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Right round the cost of Spain and into Portugal. This was a total distance of 5500 miles, in 17 days. Need I say More.

1996 Dodge B2500 from North America

Summary:

LEMON engines

Faults:

We bought our 1996 B2500 right off the lot. It is a conversion van. About a month after our purchase we took a 1500 mile road trip. We discovered the lights in the back did not work and the split stereo functions did not work. By the time we got back from vacation, the dealer refused to correct the problem. Mechanically all seemed fine until about 20,000 miles. The transmission had to be replaced. Then the oil pump went outaround 30,000 miles. The oil light came on every time I turned to the right. After checking the oil level and finding it full, I took it to the dealer. They said all was fine, but after the engine started knocking, they replaced the oil pump. Around 50,000 miles the light started coming on again, the pressure would drop to zero, but after a few minutes come back up. I replaced the oil sending unit and that worked for awhile. At 70,000 the AC went out. At 90,000 the AC went out again. Now I have just replaced the oil pump again last week and the oil light is coming on again. I read the Durango have the same problem. I am thinking DODGE is having serious problems.

General Comments:

DODGE needs to RECALL these motors and give us our HARD EARNED money back for those out of pocket expenses for these LEMONS.

Wow! Couldn't you specify which engine your van has?

Who cares what kind of motor it has. With that many problems, just stay away from it, no matter what motor it has.

One thing not mentioned is all Dodge 2500 series or bigger vans get lousy fuel mileage. Mine got 12 MPG tops with a 360 V8, but fortunately I only drove it short distances the whole 6 years I owned it.

I had to have the whole top end rebuilt. And when the trans died, I got rid of it. The cargo space was great though. Mine was a Maxi Van. I don't regret owning it, as much as I wish it would have been better made and not built in Canada.

1992 Dodge B2500 Ram Van 3.9L V8 from North America

Summary:

High cost to own the vehicle

Faults:

Six fuel pumps.

Four power steering gear boxes.

2 clocksprings.

Interior replaced once when new because the mechanisms didn't work.

Window glass kept falling out of the door on the passenger side (at least seven times).

Repair and maintenance costs totalled $11,000 over seven years.

General Comments:

Service from the dealers was bad.

One dealer in PA refused to honor the Chrysler warranty on the work because he stated he wasn't obligated to honor the warranty since he didn't sell me the van.

The van did haul a trailer well. Better than I expected. Transmission lasted to 107,000 miles then required a rebuild.
