1986 Dodge Conquest TSi 2.6 Litre turbo-intercooled from North America
Summary:
Eats 5.0s for breakfast
Faults:
If anyone knows anything about these rare, turbocharged, rear wheel from Japan cars... they know that these things have such a long list of things that can and (and if they haven't) will go wrong with them. This car should be owned by someone who has done research on this vehicle, and understands why they are so hard to come by.
This isn't some vehicle that shares engines, transmissions and various other parts with 4 other makes! This is a Mitsubishi built car, that was imported for Dodge, Chrysler, and Plymouth in the mid to late 80's. The engine itself is only found in the Starion (Mitsubishi) and the Conquest TSi (Chrysler corp).
General Comments:
This car is rear wheel drive, factory turbocharged and inter-cooled, and actually has more luxurious options than most other sport compacts had in the 80s.
My grandpa owned an 87 TSi, and he has video taken by my mother of him racing a 5.0 Mustang for a little more than a quarter mile. Both cars were completely stock, even down to the exhaust. In the video, the TSi pulls out in front of the Mustang within the first gear change, and never fell behind. This is when 4 = 8. For 4 banger with basically a hair dryer to outperform a Mustang V8 (at least in a straight line), is beyond being worthy of bragging rights.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
