1990 Dodge Dakota Sport 3.9L V6 from North America

Summary:

Recommend to anyone; it's a great starter truck

Faults:

Black oil (knew before purchase)

Air filter (knew before purchase)

Plugs (knew before purchase)

Wires (knew before purchase)

Head gaskets (knew before purchase)

Brakes (knew before purchase)

Lights (knew before purchase)

Fog lamps (knew before purchase)

Stereo (knew before purchase)

When accelerating up a hill, the engine and tranny start jerking the truck around. Do not know the cause.

Stalls when ran at temperatures below 15 degrees celsius; caused due to bad gas.

General Comments:

Overall this is an excellent truck. I purchased it used for $2000 and never found any problems, other than the ones listed above.

Lots of power and pep for a V6 in a truck.

Excellent quality interior and handling compared to newer full size F-Series.

Loved the truck, and would never have gotten rid of it unless I hadn't crashed it due to driver error.

Recommend to anyone.

For a 1990 got 17MPG mix highway and city driving approx. 15-80km over posted speed limit (speed limit is 100km/h)

Really great and durable interior.

1990 Dodge Dakota Club Cab SE 3.9 V6 from North America

Summary:

Solid, strong little truck, that is as tough as they come

Faults:

Master cylinder leaked (not a big deal).

Fuel leak in the fuel line a while back.

As of lately (it sat for a few months), the engine seems to flood itself. The only way to get it started is to take the air filter off and pour gas right into the top of the throttle body. It runs for a minute, then sputters and stalls. I'm not sure if it is another leak, or a problem with a sensor or sending unit.

Although kept clean, it's a 90, which means it's showing its age.

Besides this recent problem, it has been a great little truck, no real problems.

General Comments:

Good truck overall. For a smaller truck, it has lots of room. Comfortable.

Extra leaf springs (when new) mean this little truck can haul a lot, and not bottom out. Although I never over load it (almost never..haha).

With close to 300kms, the engine still runs solid, and has lots of power. Truck drives fairly smooth, and straight.

Most problems easy to find and fix. Parts are cheap and easy to get.

With a bit of work, they'll go for a long time.

Tough, has hauled its share over the years, but still runs quiet (up until just recently), and shifts great. A good truck all around.

The Dakota is one of the best-sized and most rugged trucks around. I really miss mine. I was involved in a collision that resulted in it being totalled and I don't like the new styling so I didn't get a new one.

1990 Dodge Dakota 309 from North America

Summary:

My Dakota is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned

Faults:

I have had to replace a transmission line about a month after I bought it, & general wear parts like the brakes and muffler.

General Comments:

In the 3 years that I have owned this truck, it has started every time I turned the key. It has never left me stranded. I have never been easy on it.

I hammer on the throttle like there is no tomorrow and it keeps kicking... I have even let my wife drive it and it ain't dead yet. This truck, which I bought "to get me through the winter", will probably be my kid's first truck.

1990 Dodge Dakota long bed V 6 3.9 from North America

Summary:

Best work truck for the buck

Faults:

Replaced fuel pump when I bought it at 256000 miles.

General Comments:

Was a one owner truck when I got it and he didn't want to part with it, he bought it new.

I use it for construction and it holds its own, more than I expected.

I love the 8 foot bed and the heavy cargo hold, it handles great under loads and even pulling the bigger trailers (8' x 22'), and the gas mileage is awesome.

Hope it holds out as well as my caravan has, if so I will have it forever, my caravan is an '88.

1990 Dodge Dakota Standard V6 from North America

Summary:

Please give me another truck that is as good as this one

Faults:

The gas pump just went at 225,000 miles.

I have replaced the shocks twice.

I have always changed the oil at 3,000 miles.

General Comments:

This truck has pulled our two horse trailer with our horses to shows for the last 8 years with no problem.

Both my son and daughter have used and I am sure abused this truck as they started to drive.

The truck is great on gas and has never broken down on the road.

Whoa! I hope my 2000 Dakota V-6 holds up as well as yours. Just keep changing the oil and I think we'll both be fine though. ;)
