1999 Dodge Durango 318 from North America

Summary:

Lemon in the highest degree

Faults:

Shut off abruptly while driving.

Changed the two rear windows motors.

Rear ac blower outlet never function.

Had three transmissions changed by the dealer three weeks after purchasing the truck.

2003 without warning while driving on the busy I-5 freeway in San Diego, California my engine locked up.

The timing chain gasket was leaking antifreeze.

The steering pump still leaks fluid.

Changed upper and lower bushing.

Air conditioner have not worked in 4 years.

My check gages light keeps coming on when I stop and when I increase the revolution on the engine the oil pressure goes back up to normal.

General Comments:

I plan on getting the sending unit change on this durango, but reading all the problem other owners have with no redress from chrysler while spending all my cash to maintain it. It will be in my best interest to get rid of it in some way before it leaves me in the street as its my only mode of transportation.

Sign me up for the class action lawsuit or may be I can start, got to find away. I spoke with different chrysler dealeships and all they do is sidestep the issue. I do try and maintain my truck, but its very hard to maintain a mechanic's night mare.

1999 Dodge Durango XLT 10 from North America

Summary:

I would consider purchasing another one in the future

Faults:

The most annoying & continual problem is the pinging, lack of power, & oil burns fast.

The power mirrors tend to only work after the vehicle has been running and very warmed-up.

The vehicle shifts into gear at high RP M's.

The ABS & brake lights stay on & the speedometer no longer works.

General Comments:

After reading other similar problems, I will try replacing the Intake Center Gasket for the performance problems and replace the rear speed sensor for the control problems.

The vehicle is a great family car for those who are not quite ready to drive a van. Very comfortable & roomy for a family of five.

The mirrors & side of the front window have large blind spots.

Dodge never made anything with an "XLT" trim level, that's Ford. Your Durango is probably an "SLT". Besides that, great review!

1999 Dodge Durango SLT from North America

Summary:

This is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned!

Faults:

OK, call me crazy, but, if you have a vehicle the size and weight of a Durango, you should probably try stopping sooner. I have had mine for over 6 years now and have never had any problems with it other than normal wear and tear. I do know it takes quite a bit longer to get it to a stop than driving a smaller vehicle (such as a PT Cruiser that will stop on a dime). I love my truck so much, I refuse to trade it for one of those new ugly Durango's or anything else out there on the market today.

It's encouraging to see a positive review on these trucks. I also have a 99 SLT and have not had anything go wrong with the truck. I take good care of it and get work done that is scheduled like oil changes every 3000 miles, spark plug wire and plug replacement and etc. Currently I have 98000 miles on it and it gets me and my family from point A - B comfortably. I recently took a 14 hr round trip from Pennsylvania to Mass. and the truck ran very well.

Unlike you, I do like the new Durango's, but will not trade mine in to get one.

1999 Dodge Durango SLT 5.9 from North America

Faults:

PCM was replaced 365 days ago because the "Check Engine" light was on, even though it ran fine.

Engine just dies while driving for no reason. Seems to be heat related. Had it towed to dealer ship, when it decided to start. Dealership spent 4 days on it, but couldn't find the problem. Says it test drove just fine. After picking it up, it died 5 miles down the road. A couple of weeks later, after not using the vehicle while on vacation, sent to a different dealership. They said it needs a new PCM. Replaced again. Not sure if I can get this under warranty, since it is a different dealership, and now 3 weeks afetr the 12 month warranty. I still need to pick up, we'll see if that is the problem, like everyone elses's...
