1998 Dodge Intrepid 2.7L from North America

Summary:

Don't waste the time or money

Faults:

Radiator fans stop working at 36000 miles.

At 54000 miles the driver's door electrical stopped working.

Crankshaft and camshaft sensors stopped working.

Tension pulley fell off at 58000 miles.

At 78000 miles the engine blew in my driveway.

Trunk pistons will not keep trunk open.

General Comments:

I religiously change the oil and filters in this car.

When I inquired about a replacement engine my local dealer told me that they already had 24 engines on backorder.

This car is a comfortable car to drive on long trips, however the expense and time to repair it make it unacceptable to own. I will never buy another Dodge product because of this car.

1998 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.2 V6 from North America

Summary:

A sporty family sedan

Faults:

When I first purchased the car, it was fantastic. You couldn't have asked for a better vehicle. Lot's of room. Fairly powerful.

After having it for about 4 months, someone ran a stop-sign and collided with my car. I am still having a few very minor problems out of that situation.

Other than that, this is a great car.

General Comments:

To sum it up in MY words, this is a sports car for a granny. It drives and looks like a sports car, but it's still able to pick up the kids and still have room for the groceries on Sunday.

1998 Dodge Intrepid Base 2.7L from North America

Summary:

Spend that extra thousand, and get yourself a German

Faults:

Front windows pop out of the brackets. Problems with the axles. For some odd reason after driving for an extended period of time in a cold weather, when I come to a stop the car begins to idle really hard and shake;after turning the car off to see what a hell happened, it does not want to start again. I am assuming it has something to do with the alarm disengaging the engine when it's not supposed to. The only positive thing about this car is the trunk and space inside.

General Comments:

I hate dodge dealerships. I will never go back there again, bunch of assh****.

1998 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 from North America

Summary:

Terrible. You'll need a new engine

Faults:

Engine failure at 73000 miles. Transmission censor at 68000 miles. Serpentine tension pulley bearings went bad and tore belt apart at 78000 miles.

General Comments:

We had to buy new engine at over $4000.00! The corporation claimed the engine failed due to lack of maintenance because no oil was found in it. But we change oil like clockwork every 3000 miles and we have receipts to prove it. Chrysler didn't care. This is a sludge build up problem. We know this because our last vehicle was a Dodge Ram that sludged up. However, it was under warranty and they had to give us a new engine. The same thing happened with the Intrepid. But now, because it is not under warranty, it is our fault!

1998 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 from North America

Summary:

This car is a low performance car I would never buy another one

Faults:

Well when I am on the highway I notice that when I try to accelerate the engine always hesitate. It takes forever to kick in no matter how hard I press down on the accelerator. There no need in trying to pass at the most important moments, the engine will never kick in. It might be the transmission also playing a part in it too. I also notice that my back windows get stuck very often. For many days sometimes I have to leave my windows down hoping that my car won't get stolen. I also have problems with the steering. When I turn it makes a horrible noise that alerts everyone that my car is a complete piece of junk. Also, my engine has blown for no complete reason at all, doesn't the manual suppose to warn when your engine is bad, well, it did not warn me anything. I had to spend a lot of money out of my pocket for a rebuilt engine, that is hesitating, tell me how frustrating that is. Have you ever heard of so much problem to a engine that only has 43,000 miles on it for a 1999.

General Comments:

This car is completely a waste of money. I am wondering right now why I see so many Dodge Intrepids on the roads. They are getting built so fast that it costing drivers so many problems.

I too have had the same problem with my windows. Last week I was driving and I lost all power could to steer or break. Very scary just glad I was not on the interstate.
