1999 Dodge Intrepid Base 2.7 from North America
Summary:
A Good car with an Engine defect
Faults:
Air Conditioning quit- will not take Freon.
Pass Window is faulty, but still works Door lock faulty- makes noise on locking.
Replaced Transmission sensors (2) at 42,000 miles- did oil and filter also.
I now have Great Fear - the engine is 2.7 and the Oil light is flickering, yesterday I checked the Oil. It was OK, today I checked again- it was down near a quart- No smoke- so where did the oil go.
On learning of the 2.7 Problems I switched to Synthetic oil- but it looks like the bearings are going to go out as the oil pressure light is related to resistance of the oil as it passes the bearings- That's my guess. I am headed for Disaster.
General Comments:
Chrysler owes a Recall on the 2.7 Engine or they should repair them regardless of miles up to 100,000.
There are too many Engine failures to be anything, but bad design or workmanship.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I have a 1999 intrepid myself, and same thing happening with the oil light. Personally I think that the problem lies somewhere else as the pressure is OK, but not the rpm that sometimes goes to low (500) and that's the moment when I see the light flicker. Usually the idling rpm should be close to 700. Other than that, my car has now 115 Miles and the engine is burning some oil, but not significant in quantity, and is running very nice, no sounds of any kind.
