1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 DOHC from North America

Summary:

The car is very comfortable, but high maintenance

Faults:

My 1999 Dodge Intrepid was fine at first, but about one month after I had it, it started ticking just a little. So I checked the oil and it was about a quart low. It continued to do this about once a month and I couldn't for the life of me figure out where the oil was going. Then about 4 month's later, (1 month ago today) i was driving home from a friends house, and apparently the crank and cam sensor went out at the same time. So I got them fixed the next day from the used car lot, anyway, a couple of day's later I was about 1 1/2 miles from home and all of a sudden, it sounded like someone was beating on my engine with a hammer. The next day it was a tick. I ended up replacing 2 collapsed lifters, and then found out I threw a bearing on the crank. And by the way you can't just drop the oil pan. So I'm getting that fixed as we speak.I'm not one of those people that can just go to the garage at every little sound. I understand from a lot of articles I've read at this site that dodge won't fix these problems.I've also got news that dodge has ended the intrepid line this year. The Dodge 2.7 is designed by Mitsubishi.I'm not saying anything, but I would be weary.

General Comments:

The car is very comfortable and roomy. I really don't have any complaints except for the Dodge 2.7 liter engine.

1999 Dodge Intrepid SE 2.7L V6 from North America

Summary:

A beautiful, yet unreliable lemon

Faults:

Engine Seized.

Reclining Bolts Broke 1.5 years ago. Was issued a recall notice 2 weeks ago for reclining bolts.

General Comments:

When I purchased this car, I was the first person at my workplace to own the new model. Nine fellow workers also purchase this model. Two of them have had engines seize. Another one is just now knocking, and looks like it might seize as well.

My engine seized in the middle of January 2004. Two weeks later another workers engine seized (replaced on warranty thankfully). On September 1, 2004 another workers seized (700Km after the warranty expired).

It's a beautiful car, a beautiful drive, but not worth the price of a new engine.

I owed $8000.00 when mine seized. The last one that seized still has $8000.00 owing on it.

I have a 1999 Intrepid we call it"Christine" you know like the horror movie!!! I am now on my third engine and fighting to have it fixed without paying for it, I refuse to pay for it!!! This is the third time, the same thing every time, but somehow it is my fualt. My fault that the oil burns up before it should without any oil light coming on, the engine blows without any check engine light coming on. Every time I take it in they act like I'm the only person ever to have had any problems of this sort with their Intrepid! I am so happy to have found this web site, it is like a support group for Intrepid owners. My car was just recently paid off. I was so happy because I needed the extra money, I thought well this engine only has about 27,000 miles it should last me a while. Not!!! Oh, but how great for Dodge they say this engine does not have a three year 36,000 mile warranty and they only replaced the last one as a courtesy. Well wasn't that sweet of them! Although now they say it is under warranty, but if they tear down the engine and find it owner error they will not pay. This is unreal! If there is a law-suit I will want to be in it!
