1999 Dodge Intrepid ES 2.7 from North America

Summary:

Many engine problems

Faults:

Rattle in engine; oil light flickers; transmission hose leaked (replaced) ; suspecting speed sensor is now out or transmission is dying; back window malfunctioning. Love to get in on the class action lawsuit (maryk2004@comcast.net).

General Comments:

Love the roomy interior and truck. This is not a very stable car. I put lots of miles on it in a short period of time. There have always been little glitches in the car.

1999 Dodge Intrepid from North America

Summary:

I miss my intrepid!

Faults:

I come from a family of 4 brothers who have taught their baby sister about cars. I'm 46yrs old and loved and babied my intrepid. Every 3000 miles she was in getting an oil change and whatever else was needed. I paid cash to dodge of Simi Valley, Ca 18,600 and she right now has been sitting there since Nov of last year. Everything you all have talked about I have dealt with. My motor went at 80,000...just after having it serviced 2 weeks before. I miss my car and how dare dodge do what they did to all of us. A lot of you are still making payments. I wanna meet the big guy who thinks he can get away with screwing all of us. getting screwed is one thing, but by dodge... I wanna screw him!

1999 Dodge Intrepid Base 2.7L from North America

Summary:

A very bad buy in the long run

Faults:

A/C fan went out in the first couple of months of ownership.

Driver side window comes out of track when it is rolled back up after being rolled down. Right rear window rolls up or down when it wants to with the driver controls or the right rear door control. This started at six months of ownership.

A/C stopped cooling the car down within the first year. Dealership recharged the A/C and put dye in the system. After over a year the leak is still not found.

The engine started making noise at 80,000 miles. Sounds like the mains are rattling. Can't find oil leak, but use a quart of oil every 1,500 miles.

Oil light came on at idle during stops at traffic lights and stop signs. Dealership fixed this problem.

Check engine light came on and dealer said they can't find any thing wrong with the car.

Car has just started to lose power and stops running while driving down the road.

General Comments:

The car ran great at first, but now is a money pit to keep running.

1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 from North America

Faults:

Faulty door lock mechanism (buzzing) @ 55K miles.

Speed Sensor Replaced @ 60K miles.

Engine just started stalling @ 90K miles and the check engine light is on again. Computer Code P340. Is this sludge???

General Comments:

I bought this car used with 45K miles and have had the repeated problems (sensors, stalling, door locks) as mentioned by other Intrepid Owners.

I am seriously looking at trading in this lemon now and at least break even on my purchase.

Nice ride, but not worth the hassle and expense.

Dealer's are just as bad too!

No more Chrysler vehicles in my future!

Sign me up for the class action!

Run don't walk away from this car. The oil light coming on at idle was the only precursor to my engine blowing at 57K miles. Since making the mistake of having the engine replaced, not knowing it was a defective design, I've had the A/C condensing coil replaced-2 window motors-dash lights twice-speed sensor. This is only the tip of the iceberg and I'm only at 68K miles so if I were you I would cut my losses now. I haven't heard many if any stories about these cars getting better. The battery placement should indicate Chrysler's engineering prowess. I've had to replace the battery twice which would normally be a non issue, but there is a extra charge because the battery can't be accessed from the engine compartment. The second battery was replaced free of charge by the battery company, but I got stuck with the labor charge because of the location.
