1999 Dodge Intrepid Base 2.7 from North America

Summary:

The car is not all that good, but then again not all that bad

Faults:

Car over heated after driving it for 1000 miles.

Fuel pump failed.

Oil pan started to leak.

General Comments:

The car handles good and it's very roomy inside. It also looks good on the outside as well.

On the other hand, it could use a little more power. Maybe I should have got the 3.2. All hope is not gone for 2.7's. A little more maintenance is required to keep up to the 3.2's . Regular oil changes and engine flushes would decrease oil sludge by a big percent, which would counter the 2.7 oil sludge problem. No sludge, no problem .

1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 from North America

Summary:

Dodge cars are made terrible

Faults:

I bought a 1999 Dodge Intrepid. Within two weeks the motor blew. They fixed the motor, and later I had an electrical fire under the passenger seat, and had problems with the cat converter.

General Comments:

I will never buy a Dodge Intrepid again. Nor will I ever buy from that car lot again, considering the motor was blown on the car when they sold it to me.

1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 from North America

Summary:

It has always been good to me!

Faults:

I applied the remedy to the Intrepid oil sludging problem suggested by the professional mechanic. with a few twists. My oil light began coming on at idle, once the engine was warm, and it was a month before I had a chance to replace the engine block oil pressure sensor. (I had replaced the sensor at 64K miles and had no further problems.) This time, the sensor was not bad, and continued to have the light come on. So, I used a quart of engine flush for the recommended 5 minutes, drained the oil completely, changed the filter, added Amoco's clean 7500 syn-blend oil and 1 pint of Risolene. I also went from 5W30 oil to 10W30. It Worked! The oil sensor has not lit once since I applied this remedy. As for driving habits, I've always run the car hard and perhaps that is why I got many more miles that most before my problem developed. I'll keep the car, hopefully another 16 months, perhaps more. I'll continue to use the engine flush and probably change the oil more frequently, despite the 7500 claim of Amoco. I previously changed the conventional oil and filter very 7500 miles not 3000, so I guess I was lucky. Oh, and I was not getting any bad engines noises before I applied this remedy. It sounded smooth and quite before, and still.

General Comments:

This has been, overall, my most favorite vehicle with only minor problems, knock on wood. It still looks sharp at its age and mileage and has been inexpensive to maintain.

1999 Dodge Intrepid from North America

Summary:

Worst purchase I've made

Faults:

Oil spills from gasket.

Worse and most, recent the car shuts off while I'm driving.

General Comments:

The car looks nice, but it is the worst purchase I ever made. Each time we ride in it, I feel like I'm risking my and my family's life. It shuts off while I'm driving all the time, in all kinds of weather, all distances.

1999 Dodge Intrepid Base Model 2.7 from North America

Summary:

Too many engine problems and too expensive to fix

Faults:

When I first got the car I thought it was a lemon because I had major problems with the starter. After the 3rd start within 1 year didn't have a problem for a while. Interior dome lights always flickered off & on for no reason. This car started releasing purple smoke since 2002. Window motors stopped working on front 2 windows. Not sure if the AC ever really worked correctly. Oil would evaporate like gasoline until I fixed oil pan leak. Always had electrical problems. Car finally died on 3/12/08 after water pump stopped working which caused car to over heated, radiator cracked, valves bent and timing chain popped. Overall I think I got my money worth with this car compaired to a lot of other people. Will not purchase another Dodge because the dealership sucks, customer service never helped and too expensive and difficult to work on this vhicle.

General Comments:

Overall I loved the design and shape of this vehicle. Love the way the dome lights turn off and the roomy space inside vehicle. Never had a problem with my interior tearing or looking sloppy.
