1999 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.2L from North America

Summary:

Not the reliable performer I hoped it would be

Faults:

Right rear power window went out and had to be replaced.

Driver's power window went out and had to be replaced.

Last July, the air conditioner stopped putting out cold air. Repair cost $79.95 and this is what they found: "Had codes for a/c control mode door open/shorted to battery - blend door stall test failure and blend door feedback failure. Found TSB 24-009-01 Lab. Op. 24-50-09-90, removed fuse 19 for 5 minutes, and then re-calibrated a/c control."

This spring, I encountered exactly the same air conditioning problem, but didn't have time to take the car in to be checked. Three days later, the problem "corrected itself" and the a/c started working okay again, putting out cold air.

Yesterday, (August 2003), the air conditioner AGAIN stopped putting out cold air. I had it checked at a local air conditioning specialist, who said the compressor is fine, the pressure is good and there are no leaks. He said it is a computer problem... sounds like the problem I had twice before in the past two years. I'm taking it to the Dodge dealer later this week, but I'll definitely write a complaint letter to Daimler-Chrysler about their faulty design.

Also, at very low speeds, I have experienced occasional "lurches," or little jumps where the vehicle accelerates slightly without my having applied any additional pressure to the gas pedal... a potentially dangerous condition. I don't know if this is engine or transmission related.

General Comments:

This is a stylish and comfortable car with a lot of nice features.

However, it seems to have a lot of operating problems.

I have a 1999 Interpid ES, That I have cared for and pampered for the past 4 years. Now at 65K it is failing me. Both of the power motor for the front windows went at 40K. The front speaker in the dashboard just blew out for no apparent reason. The check engine light came on tow time in the last month. Both time costing me in excess of 400.00 dollars. And to top it all off the passenger side dashboard just crack like to old cars of the 70's dash boards use to. I have had it with Dodge, I will never buy another Dodge, for that matter I will never buy another American made car again. We make crap when it comes to cars, something we should be the best at in the world.

1999 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.2 from North America

Summary:

A very attractive k car or lemon

Faults:

The Dodge intrepid is a impressive looking vehicle and ES model provided interior room and a enjoyable ride.

Because of the low front and the high back view very difficult to navigate parking. I have damage both the front and rear bumpers.

The first year of ownership I had several issues with the infinity sound system, covered by warranty. primarily the tweeters on the door. speakers since have been replaced at my expense. warranty expired 45000 miles.

Second year had problems with power steering and the battery cable corroded and needed to be replaced. not covered.

The rubber seals around all four doors came loose, not covered, dealer wanted to charge me 60.00 to replace each seal. seals where not damage, but the needed new adhesive.

Third year had trouble with interior lights flickering and the alarm inadvertently going off. the car was in a accident and the electronic problems corrected with replacement of the passenger doors.

The warranty expired at 45,000 miles the following month Chrysler dealership advised me to replace the entire suspension system at a cost to me of 1400.00.

The Air conditioning unit is not operational, but with other major issue have not been able to afford servicing.

Two days ago while traveling the car shifted into a lower gear, no warning. transmission specialist gave me a estimate of 1800.00 to overhaul.

The Dodge intrepid retains no value, I owe twice as much as it is worth and currently I am unable to drive the vehicle.

General Comments:

The 1999 Dodge intrepid is still a physically attractive car, with lots of space, power and luxury.

The car has been a maintenance nightmare.

The car retains no value.
