2000 Dodge Intrepid Base 2.7 from North America

Summary:

Every 3 months I wonder

Faults:

The weather stripping around door (in the frame) started coming off after 1 year - on all 4 doors.

All four window motors had to be replaced within the first 3 years.

Both left and right 'cambers' (having to do with steering) had to be replaced at 40,000 miles.

Brakes had to be replaced at 25k and 50k miles. On other vehicles, they would last twice as long.

General Comments:

This car drives nice, and handles nice.

It's nice looking.

It is very spacious inside for a family of 4.

However, it's mechanical reliability is one of the worse I have seen in the 7 vehicles I have owned.

2000 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.2 from North America

Summary:

Fix as you go!!

Faults:

The first thing that was wrong with the car was the steering wheel was crooked. Had to bring that in to get fixed under warranty.

My car alarm would not work correctly had that partly fixed by replacing steering column and the car computer.

Front sway bars were replaced because they were making noise.

My fault engine light came on. The Dealer found vacuum canister hose leaking.

The Engine light came on the transmission defaulted into second gear on highway. Drove the car to the dealer and had to replace the transmission sensor.

One Saturday morning I got in my car, leaned back in my seat and fell back into the back seat. It turns out the hinge bolts on my seat broke. Found this was a recall and had them replaced, but the power tilt seat motor was damaged when seat went back. Had to argue about who was at fault after 6 weeks of them trying to fix what was an obvious problem they finally replaced the motor. Driving home I noticed that my lumbar lever was working again how nice they must have fixed that for me for free! Nope they changed my whole upper seat without telling me and the leather doesn't match the rest of the car. Had to bring it back again sixth time for same problem. Finally they changed the leather cover to my seat from my old one. Problem finally fixed.

My door windows would get stuck in the closed position. Had them fix it several times under warranty. Then it failed out of warranty and they would not cover it. Found out that if you close the door hard with the window button pressed to the open position it would jar the motor to get it to open. problem on all doors still happens once and a while.

My locks on 2 of my doors have been buzzing for a year they eventually failed. Reluctant to pay $180 a door I Opened the door panel from the inside and unplugged each power lock. Now have manually opening doors that don't buzzzzzz.

My rack and pinion steering went at 65,000 miles $2,400 later to fix.

Today I am home troubleshooting my car. It's giving me an error code of 1594 which mens the voltage too high in charging system and 455 a large leak has been detected in the evaporative system. With the engine revved found that voltage to be 14.4volts friends say it shouldn't be any higher than 14.5volts on the battery. Oh what a joy owning this car good luck to meee!!!

General Comments:

I will drive this car to the end because I'm still making payments until 2004 sept. 11th. because I could not get enough money for it if I sold it!!!

I previously bought a Honda prelude that lasted 11 years 200,000 miles and still running with nothing wrong, but the body rotting out. I think my next car will be a Honda. And I will never buy a Dodge!!!
