I've got a '98 ES I bought in 2004 with 26,000 miles on it. Just today the speed sensor went out, first issue in 30,000 miles. Like the car a lot. Bad blind spots though. I'm having a shop do the sensor and biting my lip over it, normally I do these things and it's kill'n me! No time.

I have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid that I bought used, it has 135,000 miles.
I have had the window problems, engine sludge, water pump, high idle, and engine tap. The window problems, from what I discovered, it's the mating plug and track guides. Seal the mating plugs with silicone and grease the tracks with poly wheel bearing grease.
The engine sludge can be rectified. Advance Auto carries an chemical called Seafoam. Pour half a can in the engine oil, and the rest in a spray bottle. Have someone inside the car and keep car at 2000 rpm. Spray the Seafoam directly into the intake. Your car will smoke like it is on fire, but don't fret, that is just the sludge burning off the intake valves and blowing through the exhaust. Your car will smoke for awhile; don't get worried. After a week (1000 miles) change your oil with a oil that has detergent in it, and another half of can of Seafoam. Again run it for a week (1000). Then change the oil using synthetic oil 10w30 every 3000 miles. My car has 216,000 miles on it now and has not had a problem since I did the initial treatments.

I'm so happy that I googled my car this morning! I have a 99 Dodge Intrepid with almost every problem that has been mentioned so far...
- Auto driver window doesn't work - don't care to fix it
- Rubber seals around rear windows falling off
- Trunk won't stay up
- Hood won't shut sometimes
- Gear shifter is hard to get into park
- Oil light flickers when I stop
- Oil leaks when I'm driving I add oil every couple of weeks
- Headlights are so dim I can only see with brights on
- Heat only works when I'm driving
- CD player doesn't work
- Just noticed it's starting to rust on rear driver door
- Have spent thousands repairing A/C, heater, fuses, etc.
I could go on, but you get the picture... I too would sell or trade it, but will never get my money back out of it. I do love the feel of the car, it's roomy & comfy and I know all it's quirks so I'll keep her till she just won't run anymore.

'99 3.2L, driver side window stopped working, leaks oil, leaks coolant, leaks trans fluid, heat/air con. Only works on the high setting, back windows get stuck, 69000 miles so far, only minor problems, still a nice car.

Hazard and turn signal lights do not work. Fuses and flasher are OK, seems no power is getting to the multipurpose switch. Any suggestions please email to gmmr79@cs.com

1998 Intrepid 27, heater control problems, unresolved. Both fans replaced in the engine compartment. A/C problems, window problems. All re-occur. Not a great car.
However, it has made it to 177 K without blowing the engine or transmission. More like death of a thousand cuts, always something to fix.

I own a 1999 Intrepid 3.2 ES and bought it new off the lot in 2000. I loved this car. The only problem is that about 10,000 mile ago it started to emit a smell from the interior vents and I cannot figure out where it is coming from. Any ideas? You may email me at m2davis@cox.net if you have the answer.

I just bought a 99 Dodge Intrepid with 127,000 miles on it. Yesterday, while my hubby was driving, the car began to smoke, then stalled. He tried to restart it and it started with a flapping noise, then stalled again. I have no clue what to do. I really can't afford to replace the car. Did anyone else have the same issue? What did you do? Feel free to email me at mlatortue@hotmail.com
By the way, we had it checked by the mechanic and all he said was wrong was that we had to change the motor mounts and flush the radiator, which we immediately did.

Our 99 Dodge Intrepid, which had 183,000 miles on it, began to fill with smoke from vents about a month ago. We had the blower motor/fan fuse checked and changed. Last Saturday, while the car was idling with the fan on, it began to emit odor and smoke. Within minutes the car was in flames!! Total loss. I'm doing research and feel with all the heating/cooling issues, this should be recalled. Luckily we weren't driving in traffic when this happened.

I have read a good deal of these comments, and frankly agree that the Dodge Intrepid is basically a piece of junk. We bought it used, it's a 2000 and I have had nothing but trouble with it. One thing after another. The latest is the heater quit making heat. I suppose I'll have to get a new heater element (I hope that's all it is). The car has only a little over 80,000 miles on it. All the rubber has come off all four doors, and I've had to glue them back on. The auto-matic doors don't ever work right. Just a lemon. From what I have read, it sounds like they all are. I'll never buy another Dodge. Thanks for providing a forum to get this off my chest. Even though the auto makers never pay any attention to complaints, it makes me feel a little better.

I have a Dodge Intrepid 3.2. I have a lot of problems with it. It seems like nice car except for the front end is a little messed up, even though it's older and has problems that need to be maintained. But the things that happen to all of you are starting to happen to me, but haven't yet.
All around I still think Dodge/Chrysler is a nice company for the new cars, but the Dodge Intrepid was just a bad car they made.

I have experienced many of the common threads that 99 Dodge Intrepid owners have already stated.
My first trouble came with replacing two transmission sensors and the oil pan in 2005. I then began experiencing electrical malfunctions lights blinking on and off – this usually occurs with large amounts of rainfall.
I have also had and still have problems with my windows. Sometimes the passenger windows works, sometimes they don’t, and the driver’s side window is off track.
Recently, I have begun to experience problems with my A/C and the blower motor and blower motor resistor.
I have a 126,000 currently on a 3.2 engine, and I have had no problems to date.
This car has been both reliable and frustrating, and it is certainly too bad that Dodge has not recalled the driver’s side door tract.

I have a 1996 Dodge Intrepid. Everything seems to be going wrong with it; the transmission went out, the engine seem to be overheating all the time, and the lower ball joint always come loose. No matter, I'm just tired of this Dodge Intrepid.
