We were so pleased to purchase our 2000 Dodge Intrepid. We haven't had it a year yet and the engine starts knocking. It just stopped running and I do not want to put another engine in that will do the same thing. I wish I knew that this was a common problem. I would never have purchased the car. Now we have a great looking car that doesn't work and a note.

When purchasing my 2000 Intrepid I thought this was a great idea I have now learned this is was not. In spring 2002 the interior lights kept flashing, dealer fixed switches in the door, and again in late fall 2002. Also weather striping was creased needed to be repaired and again in early 2003, and again in spring of 2003, then was told again when the weather strips needed to be replaced they couldn't do it because in the winter they crease. Then in summer of 2004 started car up and there was a loud ticking noise brought to dealer was told no problem found. Picked up car and brought back one week later for same ticking noise they ended up replacing oil pan gasket. Picked up car had to bring back two weeks later for same ticking noise ended up being the timing chain along with gaskets and guides.

Very much the same happened with us in our 2001 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 L, with no warning our car starts knocking then the engine just failed in Labor Day traffic on a highway in PA 300 miles from home. We still owe a ton of money on this car that looks great, but is useless because it does not run. I feel so stuck because I don't want to put another engine in it same thing will happen.
