1976 Dodge Monaco 360 cubic inch V8 from North America
Summary:
A Reliable Land Yacht
Faults:
I have not experienced any major or minor problems with the car, except for a slight lack of power from the engine.
General Comments:
This car is a very heavy land yacht, and it rides like a sled. It has an extremely comfortable interior that is very large and roomy.
Although the engine runs a little on the rough side and lacks some low end power (easily fixed), it is a true gem.
The 2-barrel carburetor on the V-8 360 has helped keep the mileage above 10 MPG. This is amazing for a car of this size and age.
Since many of these cars were destroyed in the movie The Blues Brothers (they served as the police chase cars), I am hoping to keep mine in like new, original condition. I am also looking for other 1976 and 1974 Monaco cars as they are even better than the 1975 Buick I recently sold for restoration.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

In 1984 I bought a 1975 Royal Monaco sedan with a 440 engine. My intent was to use it as a daily driver/station car. Since it was 9 years old and only had 42,000 miles on it I thought it was the ideal candidate. This car turned out to be one of the fastest (yes, can you believe it at nearly 5,000 pounds) and certainly the smoothest ride I have ever had. I LOVED this car! I finally sold it in 1992 and now I wish I had it back. The biggest pluses were the enormous interior with extremely comfortable seating. This was truly the living room on wheels when the ice cold air conditioner and the stereo were on while we glided effortlessly down interstate 95 at 80 MPH. The only problems I ever experienced were excessive tire wear - I think I put two or three sets of tires on the car during the time I owned it, but I only put on about 70,000 miles - and parking it. Although you really can't count parking as a fault against the car itself, it's huge size did sometimes make it difficult to find a space since parking spaces have been downsized since 1975 just as the cars have.
