2000 Dodge Neon ES 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Good 'right out of college' car

Faults:

Water got in the fog lights at 17,000.

Driver's side door latch malfunction at 21,000.

Ignition key housing changed at 36,000.

Factory installed 4-disc changer replaced at 76,000.

At 118,000, tie rods and bushings need replacing.

General Comments:

I really like the car for its sporty look. I got all the cool options such as sunroof, CD changer, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, foglights, alloy wheels, all these for under 20 grand! I get 25 city / 32 highway MPG. It has very good handling and braking power.

The 3-speed transmission needs much improvement. Engine noise is a little loud than competitors, especially on hard throttle.

Seats need more support for long drive.

2000 Dodge Neon ES from North America

Summary:

This is the best car ever!!!

Faults:

At 130,000 miles the coil pack had to be replaced.

General Comments:

I bought this car used and it had plenty of miles on it then, I have put a lot more on it and nothing has went wrong with it except the coil pack. It is very comfortable and is roomy. At a 133,000 miles and still going I would say this is the best car I have ever owned. When this one finally fails I will get me another Neon. It is great on gas and is great to drive in all weather conditions. I also feel like my children are very safe in this car.

2000 Dodge Neon ES from North America

Summary:

I love my little neon, I only wish it would last forever.

Faults:

At 80,000 miles, my car started to misfire.

At 85,000 my coil pack had to be replaced to stop misfire.

My transmission had to be replace at 100,000 miles. The reverse went out.

Now at 162,000, my car is now misfiring more than ever. I believe it's about time for a new car.

General Comments:

I never thought my Neon would last over 100,000 miles. Now that it's gotten me to 162,000 miles, I'm very happy with my purchase.

Car is great in all weather.

2000 Dodge Neon SL from North America

Summary:

This vehicle is a hazard on wheels

Faults:

The transmission blew at 30,000 miles.

The radiator was replaced twice.

A connecting rod was sucked through the engine at 63,000 miles and exited through the oil pan.

The steering wheel vibrated at high speeds from the day we got the car.

A major clunk in the front left wheel well occurred every time I hit even the smallest of bumps on the road.

Driver's side door latch quit working properly.

General Comments:

This was my first car. I bought it because I wanted a new car with a decent warranty so I didn't need to worry about the cost of fixing the vehicle if something went wrong. The Neon was about all I could afford at the time. This car was 100% unreliable. I had it back at the dealership almost every month. Every time I took it in, the dealership could find nothing wrong with it. The only time I could get something fixed was if the car broke down entirely and it had to be towed to the dealership (this happened three times). Chrysler was extraordinarily unhelpful. Even though the warranty was supposed to cover a rental car, I would go for days without a vehicle until they determined whether or not the breakdown was covered by the warranty. I found this awfully ironic since all maintenance was up to date on the vehicle, and all maintenance was on record at the dealership. Also many small things were not covered by the warranty, such as the faulty door latch.

My nightmare with this vehicle finally ended when a connecting rod was sucked through the engine and out through the oil-pan. This destroyed the engine. It was going to cost at least $5000 to put a new engine in and just under $3000 to put in an engine with similar mileage on it. I traded the vehicle for parts at that point. I'd had enough.

I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone. It is a hazard.
