1998 Dodge Ram Pickup 5.2 from North America
Summary:
Beautiful piece of junk
Faults:
Beautiful truck. It is Dodge's Intense Blue. 1500 standard cab, long wheel base.
Truck runs really well. Has good power.
That is all that can be said good about it.
From the first day I bought it (32,000 miles on it), it has smelled like a giant match.
The drives side brake smelled like it was going to burst into flames.
The gear shift knob pulled off in my hand 3 days after I bought it.
I took it to the dealer for those things. They did manage to fix the shifter knob.
The brake has finally stopped stinking, but it could be because it is winter.
I took it in for the poor gas mileage it gets, 10 miles in town (no idea about hwy, can't afford to drive it very far). Dealer found that the intake manifold had a leak. That was repaired. I got the truck back and now it smelled rich instead of sulfur.
Took it on a hwy. trip to go buy a shell for it. Did 400 miles round trip (coming back with the shell) and I got 14 miles.
Took it back to the dealer. They can find nothing wrong with it, maybe it will work its self out!!
Guess it is live with it or get rid of it.
The truck now only has 37,000.
I will never ever own another Dodge.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

Is the brake dragging? The one that smells? I get approximately 18mpg with my 5.9L 4x4. If your brake is dragging, that increased resistance would be like pulling a trailer which would kill your gas mileage. The brakes on the Ram are small for the truck size, you caliper may be shot.
