1965 Fiat 1500 Mk3 1.5 from Australia and New Zealand
Summary:
If you see a good one, consider buying!
Faults:
Clutch servo leak, column shift ball-joint, head gasket.
General Comments:
One of the best driving cars I've ever owned. I first saw a clapped-out one in Sibiu in Romania, and it reminded me of the Alfa Giulias from the sixties. Back in Australia I looked for and found one for a negotiated $1000. It had been laid up for a while, but just basic maintenance got it back on the road.
On the road, it's light to drive, and has an airy cabin and a neat dash. The simple vinyl seats could be improved, and the long-throw column shift takes a bit of getting used.
The engine feels unburstable; I drove my 1500 interstate a number of times with no worries. However on a January trip from Adelaide to Melbourne, it did burst - the head gasket went in near Ballan.
Was repaired and I sold it a year later, and I don't know why!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
