2017 Fiat Tipo Lounge 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Stylish modern car

Faults:

Not much other than consumable parts and servicing. Even the main dealer has been OK with me. Serviced annually. Reasonable prices.

General Comments:

If you want a modern good looking hatchback as basic transport, the Tipo will do you just fine.

Lounge model has plenty extras. Smart interior, comfortable and plenty of space for its size.

I like driving this car, fun and while not very fast, manages around 40 mpg, for petrol this is OK. I'd imagine the diesels provide a bit more performance and economy.

Good looking exterior in black. Alloy wheels add to the good looks.

Reverse camera quality is a bit dodgy. That is my only compliant.

But overall cannot fault it, the Tipo is a decent little car for the money.

2017 Fiat Tipo Easy Plus 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A great used buy

Faults:

Nothing, only had it eight months.

General Comments:

The Tipo offers low running costs and a cheap entry fee. Where else can you get a low mileage 2017 car for around £7995? It won't hold what little value it has well, but I hope to keep this car long term if it proves more reliable than Fiat's of days gone by. I had a Punto once and it was awful, but that was many years ago.

Modern Tipo immediately feels better built. A bit dated looking on the inside, but you cannot expect much for the price. Easy Plus model has plenty of extras, Bluetooth, cruise control, etc. Cabin is quiet enough.

The car looks very nice in black with original Fiat alloy wheels. Great looking in my opinion.

Only downside so far is the 1.4 engine - not very fast and the best mpg I have had is 45, not the 49 claimed average.

Still, it is a modern hatchback that does everything I need for a good price, and is a good overall car, and not a common sight on the roads, so it is nice to drive something a bit different.

I was in a friend's one at the weekend. Nice car, Fiat have come a long, long way, but are still a bit under par quality wise. The seats felt comfortable enough, but the dash looked cheap, and long term reliability if you did a lot of miles probably still isn't great.

Still, the modern Tipo is better than the one my aunt had in the early 1990's, but that wouldn't be too hard ;)

2017 Fiat Tipo Easy 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Modern yet old-school vibes

Faults:

Not much beyond the usual wear and tear, I keep it serviced on time, and the last MOT only required some brake and suspension work, not too expensive - the car is barely 5 years old and has low mileage. Air con is not quite as cold as it once was.

General Comments:

My Fiat Tipo in dark blue is very sharp looking, I like the look of this car with it's standard alloy wheels. Still blends in with other hatchbacks on the road.

The Easy model is well equipped, though I'd recommend the Easy Plus spec for that little bit more equipment; this car has the bare minimum for a modern car. Interior is comfortable enough for me at average height and weight, however if you are over 6 foot you might find it a little cramped. Seats are comfy enough. Controls are laid out well and I like how the climate control is very old school (analog discs/sliders), looks like something for the 1990's but that is OK with me - I cannot stand modern cars' climate control with the fiddly buttons or touch screen, so I'm glad this car has an old school vibe.

Incidentally, we had a Fiat Tipo in the family in the early 1990's, it was a good enough car for us at the time, I like how Fiat with this one have brought the Tipo back and updated it, yet kept the old school hatchback vibes.

1.4 petrol is not fast in all honesty, but nippy and smooth enough about town, so good enough for me, I do not drive nearly as much as I used to. You will see over 40 mpg taking it slow when you get on longer drives. Tax and insurance is relatively cheap, but I am an older guy now with many years no claims.

So far the car has been reliable, and the main dealer has been OK with me, but long term reliability remains to be seen, and as it ages and is out of warranty I will be looking at cheaper independents for servicing and repairs.

Overall I'd recommend it if you want something a bit different from a Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra or whatever, and you like a modern car to still have that 1990's feel about it.
