Good day.
I also own a 1100 Uno with that exact distributor problem. This is the third distributor in the 6 years I've owned it that I've had to replace. I found the distributor gets oil in between the ignition module, so you have to take the module off and clean there, but after a few times of doing it, the plastic mounting gets worn out and the ignition module no longer sits tight to the distributor. After a while, the distributor bushes are worn out and also the ignition module and vacuum advance itself doesn't last long either. I am looking to find a way to throw out this distributor and replace it with something more reliable. I hope this helps.

Hi guys.
I own an Uno 1100 model (1996). I had the same distributor problem until I changed the whole system by putting in a Mk2 16 valve Golf distributor with 7 pin module, plus Golf wiring and the bottle like coil. That's when my problem was been sorted. Since then it's been running like a dream.

Hi, I am from Cape Town, South Africa.
I had exactly the same problems with my 1100cc Uno Mia. The earth cable from the battery to the motor needs to be taken off - sand it down with sandpaper to ensure that it is clean, and fit it again - that should take care of the problem.
It is always wise to fit an extra earth cable on the other side of the motor to the body - sometimes the pick up inside the distributor (electronic ignition type) burns the plastic coating off the wire - replace it carefully with a heat resistant wire.

I own a Fiat Mia 1100cc 1996 model Uno. Without warning the engine cuts out at low revs, resulting also in no lights, indicators and fuel and water temp dials cease to function. Immobiliser does continue to function. Any ideas or reasons for this fault? This sometimes occurs after the vehicle has been standing parked for a short while; more importantly on one occasion it suddenly returned to normal operation while going along!!

The Golf distributor do work, but you will never get the timing correct because the Uno distributor has a vacuum unit controlling the timing at load and it has a mechanical advance for pulling power. With a Golf distributor you throwing all those benefits out the window and the dwelling point is way off to what the motor specs should be.
