How's about all the Mustang owners who have done the same thing?

Provoked? Every try to tell your grown, fully independent child to listen to you? He graduated from Flagler there, then called us up and said he’s not coming back permanently. That’s been 20 years ago now. He’s bought and collected cars too. Really proud of him and the choices he has made. By the way I have all my emission equipment on ones that came that way. He buys new cars and it’s a clean starting board to take apart right after purchase. His last was a black Rubicon; a stark change before and after. A real wicked looking head turner. Looks great!

Good suggestion. Has a lot to do with the difference in the computers also.

What do I care about emissions testing? Just another government hassle to have to go through, thanks to all the people who removed their converters or run "dummy cats"...

Easiest solution is to buy a super nice, earlier quick car, pre 73 with air conditioning. Or a newer 500 HP car with air conditioning. I own both. The Crown Vics/ Marquis are dated even though I had 4 of them. There’s so many choices, import and domestic, that have plenty of power. The goal is not to drive a boring slug. Who cares what fuel you use or MPG you get.

So he made a choice to run "dummy cats" on that Challenger with a manual and you're proud of that. Raw exhaust is bad for your health.

Maybe it was mandatory for you in California. Even before you actually read this post.

Spoke with my son. Other than being louder, the black Challenger SRT8 manual trans car was not a notable difference bolting up the new dummy cats kit. No sawing. With a Hemi it’s already fast. He changed to a big intake, added a catch can, and added a engine crossover brace. All the lens are black (an illegal change). He modified a Viper, added Corsas, and added 100 shot nitrous for the street. Great cars.

"(an illegal change)" Are you proud of that one also?

One nice thing on here is you do not have to account to anyone. Pick up a random sentence here or there to pounce on. Something is lacking to act like that. Try wishing everyone well. One way I have found is to simply find something that really occupies your mind such as opening up your wallet on a car. Not just settling for a boring block of metal with 4 wheels. Find a dream car; something great. It’s like putting blue dots on your 55 Chevrolet. You simply pay the fine. You do not need a stranger lecturing on it. This is a car forum. I am very proud of what I own. Also extremely happy. If unhappy, I get rid of it quickly. Easy.

Proud of someone who thinks that the laws apply to everyone... except, uh, them?

Sure, why not?

16th Feb 2020, 02:12

Just relocate to one of the 19 states that don't require the test.

If you are concerned about polluted air; just steer clear of Florida. Word is out that there's a black Challenger SRT8 manual (more than likely purchased new) that has had the converters proudly removed and replaced with dummy cats.

16th Feb 2020, 17:10

As I said they proved ineffective with the Hemi. So removed. If you are so concerned with fresh air, why drive daily in a extremely heavy congested smog state like California? The sunny climate and clean air is pretty nice in beautiful Naples Florida. A car lover's dream town. Look it up sometime.

Why rain on others parade with nice cars they really enjoy to have fun with.

17th Feb 2020, 00:12

Speaking of Florida, I actually live in the southern part of the overpopulated state and remember in Y2K when they did away with emissions. I also remember when the law was in effect, my mid 80s Grand Prix with a carburated V8 failed the test. So what did I do? Immediately after the test, I got on the highway, illegally in the HOV lane and put the pedal to the metal for a few miles, then went back to the emissions station 20 minutes later and passed. Why? Because at the time the test was a joke. $50 to wait in line for over 45 minutes with the air conditioner off (because it was required) in the sweltering heat only for them to check the VIN number, stick a mirror under the car to check for a converter and put the analyzer in the tailpipe. A 3 step process that took 2 minutes after waiting in line.

So in the end, if someone lives in a state that has to go through the hassle, I can understand the frustration. I can also understand if you can get away with deleted converters to avoid costly replacements (which was just a recommendation in the very first comment of this review). But if you're going to be like the Challenger guy and do it for fun and pride? Yeah I can see people protesting that kind of attitude. In the past 20 years there have been no reported deaths in FL due to exhaust pollution. At least not that I know of.

Car lover's dream state. 1000 HP Supra.

"In the past 20 years there have been no reported deaths in FL due to exhaust pollution. At least not that I know of."

"A new study from MIT suggests that in the US, 53,000 people a year die prematurely because of automobile pollution, compared to 34,000 people a year who die in traffic accidents.

These results more than double the number of people who die in the US every year as a result of automobiles, to nearly 100,000."

Just because you personally don't see the results of automotive pollution doesn't mean it isn't happening. If you're one of the folks who thinks it's a great idea to remove the emission controls and equipment from your vehicle because you want to squeeze a few more HP out of your land yacht, then understand that the equipment removed serves a purpose and in doing so, you too are adding to the consequences stated above. Those are the facts. And again, it's about being a good steward. It's no different than throwing garbage out your car window... sure - ONE person throwing a candy wrapper out the window seems like no big deal. But just take a drive down ANY US freeway and observe the sheer volume of garbage clogging the medians. That's what happens when a lot of people do that. It all adds up and it's we, who try to do what's right, that suffer the consequences.

The cats were removed for more power. Since it made little difference, they were put back on. Let’s everyone quit smoking cigarettes too. In my opinion the only reason you should smoke is if you are on fire. Avoid Metropolitan areas and bus fumes. Work in the suburbs and outlying areas. Wear a mask too for Coronovirus concerns as well. Sounds like chicken little with the sky falling down on here. Let’s enjoy what we have. It’s a great hobby too.
