1995 Ford Escort Acapulco 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An excellent car that is 100% reliable and looks great

Faults:

The car has just had a major service which cost about £400.

It had fitted a new cam belt.

2 new tyres.

A new fan belt.

Also lots of other little jobs completed.

General Comments:

General comments about my car is that it is a very good car.

It is 6 years old now so the seats are worn.

Also the bodywork has some minor scratches and dents, mostly due to vandalism from neighbours.

The colour of my car is actually the reason why it is subjected to vandalism because it is a lovely shade of Blue.

A problem with my car is that it is very thirsty and requires a lot of fill-ups at the petrol station.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

Not a bad car, for the price

Faults:

The transmission was jumping gears.

The Constant Velocity boot leaked oil.

The car in general does not have enough power.

General Comments:

This Escort, overall, is not a bad car. I had some problems with it in the beginning, but since those problems were fixed, I can't say much wrong about the car. Meanwhile, you get what you pay for.

Driver's side CV axle.

General Comments:

I bought this car because it was all I could afford, when I bought the car I didn't expect it to be any good because, after all, it was a Ford. I had a wonderful time with my Geo that I had before, but so many miles and the engine was worn so I had to get this Escort.

At first I was scared to even press on the gas because I heard that Escorts always fell apart, after awhile nothing went wrong "knock on wood", then one day I started really giving it some gas and I realized this car was as good as any Honda out there and it had good pep too.

I love the power options that the car has, the A/C is excellent and so is the heat.

The seats are firm and comfortable, the ride is smooth. I enjoy the car and would recommend it to anyone.

The only thing I find wrong with this whole thing is that the local Ford dealership is quite rude and their prices are outrageous.

Many problems

Faults:

1) Check engine light.

2) Pulls to the right.

3) Passenger side seat belt gets jammed.

4) Winding noise coming from the steering wheel.

5) Clunking clicking noise from the driver's side tire - the Ford dealership where I bought this claims they can't find anything wrong with this car. I've been with the service man while the check engine light has come on and he has been "like where, I don't see anything"!

I bought this car cause it was a good price I should have known better than to buy any kind of Ford product It was the worst thing I have ever done. I'm sure when the warranty runs out in a few months they will find all the problems plus some.

General Comments:

I can say this, for this Escort it rides good and the build is quite good, however this car has no power at all, you can forget about passing anything on a 2 lane road cause it's not going to happen.

This happen to me too.

I have a Ford Escort LX 1992, automatic.

The check engine light was on, so I took to the service representative.

I also had starting problems.

The mechanic says the starting problem was one relay, but in reality was 2 relays and the starter motor.

This failed at 99.000 km.

The check engine light was on, and was related to the hego sensor and mass flow sensor.

The cost of the hego sensor is $130, which is not a bad price for a sensor.

Gas sensors like this control the gas feeding and are related to the power and echonomy.

Gas sensors are so important that hot rod or race mechanics are always experimenting with them to reach optimum tuning for outside conditions as temperature of the air and humidity.

I am not a mechanic, I am a mechanical egineering, but I would like a car I can service myself and with cheap parts replacement.

The new Ford models are powerful, especially considering all the complaints from you guys related to the lack of power, but are horrible to service.

There is just not space in the engine compartment for servicing.

The reality is that the Ford Escort fails because you guys don't make the service when is supposed to to, you need to be a bit of a mechanic to have a Ford Escort in good condition and reliable.

If I had the facilities to lift the car, I will have this car in good condition for many many miles, but I guess I am going to make my own cars, instead one day I have a shop.

I had the exact same problem with the exact same car! I bought my 1995 Escort LX and everything seemed fine until winding sound started in the steering wheel, but only when I was going 55 mph or more. I took it to be serviced when this happened. They took apart the whole dash board and told me they couldn't find anything wrong with the car.

Then the service engine light came on and it started pulling to the right. The mechanic told me it was a starting relay and the fuel filter, so they replaced them. It helped for about a week.

After that, the power just stopped. It was a nice and powerful car, but no longer! I can hardly get up speed between stop lights, let alone getting enough speed up to pass a car on the freeway.

Is it the Mass Air Flow Sensor or the hego sensor? I've taken this car to 4 different shops and none of them can figure out what is wrong.

Please help me.

I am having the same problem with my 92 Ford Escort LX. The steering column needs to be replaced & it has a problem getting up to speed. The car vibrates when going over 50 MPH. The check engine light just started to come on then go off. I tightened the gas cap and it goes off for a while then comes back on randomly.

Any suggestions?
