I'm surprised that you had to replace all of that that soon, but I'm not surprised. These cars need regular maintenance, and neglecting it causes them to destruct. It's the same with the GT I drive. The outside was taken care of, so it's in good shape, but the mechanical work was only done when something broke, so it's all going now. I've replaced half of the front end. But I love the car, and the way it can accelerate, handle, and drive, and still return 400-700 km (250-438 miles.) on a tank.

1995 Ford Escort LX 1.9L from North America

Summary:

Reliable cheap car

Faults:

Muffler.

Clutch kit.

Air conditioner.

Mass airflow sensor.

Timing belt.

Back right shock.

General Comments:

This car was my mother's, and I ended up getting it as my first car, which I still drive today.

It's got the most basic of features. The cabin is moderately comfortable. Long drives on highway sometimes bother me because I can't tilt the steering wheel.

The car does not have as much zip as I want, but it does get me from point A to point B, which I am happy with.

It's a pretty reliable car, and has outlived my expectations of it.

1995 Ford Escort LX from North America

Summary:

A good first car; cheap, and fairly reliable

Faults:

Massive oil leak

Horrible heating system

Not very powerful at the get-go

Idles high even when warm.

General Comments:

A really great first car. I owned 2 1995 Ford Escorts. One was auto and one was standard. The standard one drove much better then the auto.

This is a very economical car; you can get cheap tires, cheap parts (these cars are everywhere at auto wreckers), and most importantly, cheap gas!

A comfortable car, but not meant for tall people.

The doors often froze shut in the winter - I had to climb through the hatchback numerous times.

It was a good car until the motor blew up!

1995 Ford Escort 1.9 gas from North America

Summary:

Nessesary Geek Mobile

Faults:

Timing Belt Broke in the middle of nowhere with pregnant wife and 2 kids and pitch black night with $15 to my name and 2 hours from home. Some nice people picked us up and drove us 2 hours back to our front door and would not take any money! I wanted to send them some, but they refused. Not Fords fault! Timing Belts should be replace at 70k and I was at 140K (MY FAULT). Springs in back are bad because Ford wrapped them with something at factory causing them to rust early. Just replace Alternator myself ($90). Easy if you compare it to a Saturn Alternator. Saturn Engeneers MUST be on crack. The whole engine on the SL-1 is backwords. Everything that should be servicable is at the fire-wall LOL.

General Comments:

I used to drive a 1969 Dodge Charger RT and a 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 so I feel like a real loser geek driving this car, but that's what happens when you get married have 2 kids and only make 30K a year. You end up selling all your cool stuff and looking like a GEEK!

1995 Ford Escort LX 1.9L from North America

Summary:

Most reliable car ever

Faults:

Fuel door don't shut my fault I added a big stereo every time the bass hits it opens. Rear view, mirror fell off 2 times passenger side lock doesn't work it got broke into. Paint is peeling off driver side front fender other than that's been a good car. It's very slow though wish I would have got one with manual transmission an 1.8 litre,.

General Comments:

For a first car is really reliable I beat on it pretty hard and nothing has broke. My brothers first car was a 1990 cavalier had to replace the clutch 3 times and various engine parts. If you want a good reliable car that gets good gas mileage I would buy this car.
