2002 Ford Escort ZX2 from North America
Faults:
It just stops running and the power steering locks up, there is no sputtering or anything, it just stops running. This does not happen regularly, only every 2000 miles or so.
General Comments:
The technicians at Ford cannot find the problem, their answer is to drive it until something breaks. If any one can help with some info, it would be appreciated. My 17 year old daughter drives this car and I am worried about her safety.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Does it give any codes?
Especially a po340.
I am dealing with one right now that's doing same thing, and has a po340 code (camshaft position sensor). Have replaced sensor, wiring, and computer. Get the same readings.
I used a salvage computer and I am wondering if this is an inherent problem and I need to get a brand new computer?
Or if this is a really weird problem, in which case when I figure it out I'll post it.

Replace your upper and lower (upstream and downstream) O2 sensors. If you need help doing it, let me know, I will walk you through it. There isn't much I can't do mechanically with an Escort ZX2, so any other questions about it, feel free to ask... Shoot me an email to ScribbledCanvas@aol.com
Don't waste your money having it done in a shop when you can do it by yourself for just the cost of parts...
That goes for anyone else with questions too. I will gladly answer them!

I see that it is a manual. if you or your daughter is down shifting when this happens, and is in that gear for a long time with hi R P M 's than that will happen. it is called beating the crap out of your car. and it is called user error. my car does this sometimes when I'm driving to too hard. if you are not doing this than your guess is as good as mine. drive safe.
