1998 Ford Expedition Eddy Bower 5.4 from North America

Summary:

Way cool SUV

Faults:

The leather on the steering wheel has worn quite a bit.

Front brake pads.

General Comments:

Outstanding vehicle.

Unstoppable 4x4 system, this SUV will go anywhere it will fit and if you drive it like it should be, it will go most of those places too.

Although this vehicle is disliked by the tree huggers, I'm akeepin' mine.

The only thing that I would change is the engine needs to be a little bigger.

I'm not sure what the other owners problems have been, but mine has had not a single problem and the fit and finish is quite good.

1998 Ford Expedition XLT 5.4L from North America

Summary:

Gets a A+ for road manners, A+For off road, and a A+ for work ability

Faults:

Nothing worth saying.

General Comments:

This rig is awesome. Ill be the first to admit, I was a bit skeptical about the new Generation "Triton" SOHC Engines from Ford, I thought they would be gutless wonders that were crap.

Boy was I wrong about the 5.4L (the 4.6L is a gutless wonder)

I love this Engine. It can haul the 5700LB 4x4 Expedition to 60MPH in less than 9 seconds, in 4LO it can grunt a 6000LB Pontoon boat up a ramp with a 70% Grade with ease. A lot better than my old Econoline with a 302, however, the Econoline gets it in 55-80MPH runs, the long stroken Triton (4.125 inch stroke!) gets weak up high, but the 302 is very longwinded.

This thing handles like its on rails.

Off road I was a bit hesitant to push it to hard because of the SLA Torsion bar setup, I am used to the older, more Durable "Twin Traction Beam" setup used on older Fords, but this setup surprised me, handles rocks very well, and on mixed trails (Mud, sand, rocks, water) this vehicle does very well, mostly due to its awesome low end grunt and true 4x4 Ground Clearance.

My Wife wanted one of those "cute" car based SUV's like a Toyota Rav4 or Honda CRV, I'm glad I got the Truck based Expedition!

1998 Ford Expedition XLT 5.1 from North America

Summary:

Great design and performance; however, the rusting of the body is a big disappointment

Faults:

Check engine light often comes on requiring a minimum $200 ignition repair.

All four doors showing rust on the inside where the outside door skin overlaps the inside door skin.

General Comments:

Love the vehicle.

Handles well.

Very disappointed with the fact that the vehicle is showing rust so soon.

My Expedition is also showing rust on the bottom of all 4 doors. I had to pay $1000 to get the rust cut off and repaired on all 4 doors. I've been to used car lots and even 2002 Expeditions have the rust on the doors and Lincoln Navigators also. Besides that I had to replace my transmission at 76K. Those or the only bad things that have happen to this SUV.

1998 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 5.4 from North America

Faults:

Every winter the wire from one of the lights on the running boards get snow/ice on them, and the wire breaks.

The drivers side heated seat quit working, right after the warranty was up.

The rear window wiper/washer works intermittently.

Sunroof wouldn't open (just passed warranty). The dealer wanted $1K+ to replace the track/motor, etc. I got it fixed at a local garage for $60...

General Comments:

I went from a Trans Am to the EB, and although it is not a race car, it is the nicest all around vehicle I have ever owned. It is very comfortable to drive, has lots of room for all. I can't wait to get a 2003+ some day!

Hello, I own a 1998 Ford Expedition. I would also agree that this truck has always been a great truck. Though she has had a few problems these last few years. See we have owned this 1998 Expedition for five years. We paid it off this year. Since we bought it we have always took well care of it. That is except for the last two years. We just couldn't afford anything. Well at the beginning of this year we decided to have any work it needed done. We had a new starter, positive and negative wires, passengers side wheel baron, new tires, front end alignment, windsheild. and the list continues. But it set for two years with no repairs at all. But I would do it all over again for this truck. THANKS ANDREW.
