1999 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 4WD 5.7L from North America

Summary:

Excellent

Faults:

I'm pretty happy with my Eddie Bauer, but I do have a small problem. When I was moving the gearshift from Park to Drive, it skipped a notch. Now Park is between P and R, Reverse is between R and N and so on. How in the world can I fix this and how much will it cost me?

General Comments:

The vehicle handles great, it runs smooth and I haven't had any problems with it. It rides a little rough, but that's because of the old tires. I'll be replacing those puppies pretty quick with Michelins.

1999 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 5.4L V8 from North America

Summary:

I will try to get rid of this car ASAP

Faults:

One of the spark plug were blown out of the cylinder at 57,000 miles. It cost me $2200 for the repair.

General Comments:

I found out through WEB research that some Expedition owners have same problem I've experienced on this car. I would appreciate if this issue will be look at by Ford senior management and make corrective actions.

1999 Ford Expedition EDDIE BAUER from North America

Summary:

It's a lemon waiting to be squeezed

Faults:

This truck is horrible, it is a gas guzzler and since I have had it I have been getting it fixed every 6 months for either the gaskets or the bearings the brakes the steering and the transmission. now it has been making some noise like there is a chain under it, and it also makes this knocking noise every time you pull off or stop. I do not recommend this truck to anyone it should have been a recall a long time ago.

General Comments:

This car is continuously pulling gas and it is not at all comfortable the only good quality is that it can accommodate up to 10 people, but who is going to ride in a broken car!!!

1999 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 5.4 liter V8 from North America

Summary:

A great truck in its own right -- but doesn't measure up to a Suburban. Too bad!

Faults:

Squeak from the dashboard - a parcel shelf rubs against the surrounding panel. Had it worked on a few times; can't seem to get rid of it.

General Comments:

We got this truck because we wanted a newer vehicle and we were downsizing from a '92 Suburban. The results are mixed.

The Ford has *significantly* less interior passenger and luggage space, compared to the Suburban. The luggage space behind the third row seat is very limited, and the third row seat is most uncomfortable. If you're shopping for an Expedition and haven't compared it with a Suburban, be sure and do so.

While the Ford is more than a foot shorter than the Suburban, it's really not that much easier to maneuver in tight parking spots.

It's been a great truck, really. Looks nice, comfortable, it's been reliable so far. But for the same gas mileage, I could have just bought a newer model Suburban. I'm not really disappointed with the Ford; I just think it's a step down from the Chevy.

One thing for sure: handling is much nicer than the Chevy. Almost no body roll, tight cornering -- it's almost a sports car by comparison.

Our truck is a 4x4. It's simply the finest, most stable vehicle I've ever driven in snow. Sits on the road like a rock, even in several inches of snow. Can't be beat on that score.

Methinks you are missing a few details, writer of this review. The Ford Expedition was and is meant to compete with trucks like the Chevrolet Tahoe. Ford's rival to the Suburban and Yukon XL was the Excursion as a previous commenter has said. The Excursion ceased production in 2005, however, so if you want a truck the size of the Suburban from Ford, look to the Expedition EL, the Excursion's successor.

Bought ours new and love it. Only have had to do normal maintenance over the 10 years. We took the third seat out and probably would have been better to not have had to buy it. Love the leather upholstery, good quality. Driver sits up high and can see the road well. Once we changed the tires to wider ones, we lost messiness of handling for greater maneuverability. Great travel vehicle for 2-4 people, but the fuel mileage is nothing to brag about. Never more than 17 mpg on the highway, even less in town.
