The foul smell from the exhaust and power loss = catalytic converters need replaced.
DOOR AJAR LIGHT = take wd40 or pb blaster, open every door and liftgate, about mid way down the door you will see a latch that locks the door to the body when closed. Give this latch a good blast of (my choice) pb blaster or wd 40. Make sure you have at least a 2 or 3 second blast, needs to be good and saturated, close the door and open, repeat 8 times fairly fast, repeat his on all 4 doors and lift gate, and repeat this every year.
Brake dust = when you have your brake pads replaced, spend the extra money and get a good set of ceramic pads (my choice) Duralast Gold from Advance Auto have a lifetime warranty, so when you wear them out, you can go get a free set.
I have an F150 and a Taurus. I have done all of this to both and it works very well. I hope this helps every one whom reads it.

As with any type of vehicle, there are lemons and there are those that run strong. Then, there are those that take proper care of their vehicle and those who don't.
We've owned Fords for years and have never had problems with any of them (84 Bronco XLT, 91 Bronco 25th Anniversary, 97 Expedition Eddie Bauer, 2003 Expedition Eddie Bauer, 2001 Escape XLT, 88 Mustang GT Convertible, 89 Mustang GT Convertible, 91 Mustang GT). No problems with any of these vehicles!
Our 97 Expedition was running strong. The only reason we moved up is the 2003 offered power fold down 3rd row seats, heated and air conditioned seats and dual climate control in the front. We live at about 7800 ft in the mountains of Colorado. Mountains and Colorado are hard on cars. Ford should be commended for building strong, long-lasting vehicles. Our 2003 Expedition has only been in the shop for routine things like changing of transmission fluid.
I highly recommend Ford and the Expedition! I wish the gas mileage was better though.
