1994 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 Pushrod from North America

Summary:

If you want a good SUV, go with Explorer XLT

Faults:

Replaced entire AC system at 180000.

Clutch at 150000 and at 205000.

Bearings at 195000.

Radius arm bushings at 200000.

I think the Tranny needs some love, but hey... 213000 miles.

Everything else, pretty routine.

General Comments:

Awesome truck!!! My Dad was original owner before me. Let air in tires down to 20psi and you couldn't have a better beach truck. I pulled Suburbans, Tahoes and even JEEPs out of the sand. Yes, I know it's hard to believe you can get a jeep stuck, but I've yanked them out too. If you show this truck just a little love, it gives a whole lot back.

1994 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

Very dependable truck!!!

Faults:

The only problems that I have really had is that the second day that I had it, I went to get in it and go to work and the starter stoped working. I replaced it within an hour and went to work.

Also I had to replace the clutch at 105k miles. I think the transmition is gonna need some TLC soon to.

General Comments:

Over all I love this Truck!!!

It is by far the most reliable vehicle I know of. It has a perfect amount of power, fairly decent gas mileage, is near impossible to get stuck in 4x4, and I'm 6'3" 220lbs and I am comfortable in it.

1994 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 from North America

Summary:

Great reliable vehicle that can take abuse

Faults:

Had to replace drive belt.

Rebuilt transmission at 170,000.

Replaced wheel bearings.

Really bad gas mileage.

It leaks dust really bad.

General Comments:

I really like driving it it's really fun.

I have never gotten stuck.

Very reliable.

For all the $%&! I have put it through it has held up great.

It is a great hunting and boose cruise'in vehicle.

The only time it ever failed me was when the drive belt broke 5 miles from home.

1994 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

I with they had SUV demo derbies

Faults:

I've owned my Explorer for just over a month. Here is a list of things that have already gone wrong with it:

1. The brakes quit. (Not just slowly went away, they just stopped working!)

2. It has developed a very serious miss.

3. Trans is starting to slip badly.

4. 4 High stopped working.

Manufacturing flaws:

1. Gas tank bottom is rotted and about to fall off.

2. You almost have to pull the engine out to get to the right rear spark plug.

3. Stereo is either full blast or all the way down.

4. Of course we all know about their reputation to roll over...

Things wrong with it when wife bought it:

1. Oil pouring out of rear seal.

2. Driver's seat is all, but worn away to nothing.

3. Rust... Enough said.

4. Idles fine, but sputters and jerks when you apply gas.

5. Underpowered.

6. Exhaust looks and sounds like someone shot it with a fully automatic BB gun.

7. 4 Low Range doesn't work.

General Comments:

I have nothing good to say about this vehicle. I have always hated Ford products and obviously Ford is doing nothing to change that.

You have discovered the reasons that many people call the

Ford Explorer the Ford Exploder!

I don't think it was fords problem, I think it was a lack of maintenance problem. My 1994 explorer has 150K miles, it looks/runs/drives like it did when I drove it off the lot in 1994.

1994 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4.0L 6 Cylinder from North America

Summary:

Fairly good vehicle, just a lot of money to put into them once they get old

Faults:

Had to replace breaks four times, in 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2003 - Every two years, need new breaks.

Recently, the handle on the driver's side fell off while shutting the door - the door also leans down, having to really push it in when you shut it - or it will crack and wind will blow in.

Some leakage from the sun roof.

Electrical problems with the vehicle. In fact, when we bought it at the dealership, the battery was ran down - replaced the battery probably 6 times since we've had it.

Power door window on driver side went out at around 115,000. Windshield wipers quick working shortly after the window went out. ($450 to fix both), bought four new tires ($500) six months ago.

Yesterday, at 121,000 it blew a head gasket, and the transmission went out (Both at the same time).. and got a quote from the mechanic that it would be $4,300 to fix both.

General Comments:

I've put a lot of years into this vehicle, and it's been a reliable friend until lately. I think it's time that we part our ways. I've already purchased another vehicle.
