2003 Ford F150 FX4 Supercrew 5.4 from North America

Faults:

Back window started leaking around 75000. Easy fix though.

Coil packs bad at 100000 miles.

A/C compressor bad at 125000.

Alternator out at 130000.

Front ball joints bad at 140000.

All around, this truck is the best vehicle I have ever owned. It still drives like it's brand new. The things that have gone wrong with it are normal everyday wear and tear.

I am still driving this truck, and will continue to until the tires fall off. The paint still looks good; I change the oil every 10000 miles. I wash it pretty regularly. Never had the transmission serviced. The 4 wheel drive still works exactly the way it did when I bought it.

I did have to replace the stereo at 150000 miles, but that's only because I was tired of only listening to my 10 year old CDs.

The Kelley Blue Book on this truck is still $13,000.00. I'm gonna keep driving it until it won't run any more. I love this truck.

2003 Ford F150 Lariat Supercrew 2WD 4.6L from North America

Summary:

All in all, a great truck that I plan on keeping for a lot longer

Faults:

Heater control doesn't blow on the floor.

CD player quit this year.

Driver's door lock is now manual only.

Spare tire seized.

Dealer recall work on gas tank strap.

Replaced brakes and tires.

Front passenger side hub.

General Comments:

This has been an excellent truck for me. Everything that has failed are basically accessories. The truck has never let me down mechanically.

It rides smoothly, is very quiet on the highway, and has no trouble pulling a 3000lb boat, except in hilly country. I can park it anywhere, even parallel parking, as you can see clearly down the hood and out the back.

The heated leather seats are a must in the winter, and work great, and the sunroof is a great good weather option. The factory stereo had great sound until CD player quit. Power pedals is a nice option for my wife.

Gas mileage is very bad for a small eight cylinder and two wheel drive; I average 13-14mpg. But it is a truck, and most of my driving is in town, so I accept it for what it is.

2003 Ford F150 XLT FX4 4.6 from North America

Summary:

Reliable, solid truck

Faults:

Ball joints at 68k.

Starter at 75k.

Driver seat fabric tore at seam at 70k.

Rocker panels rusted out at 70k.

Paint failed on hood and peeled at 65k.

General Comments:

Very reliable, Ford should fix paint issues and under coating issues, and use more durable fabric for the seats.

The drive train should have been designed to be more efficient, but it has met every need I have had with it so far.

2003 Ford F150 Heritage Edition 5.4 V8 from North America

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong; it has received a recall repair to install an new fuse harness related to the cruise control system.

General Comments:

I really like the truck. It's the "Heritage Edition" that was only available in the 2003 model year; it stands out from the other 10 million F-150's out there. The ride is comfortable, has plenty of power for towing, and the four wheel drive system works without flaw. The only complaint I have is with fuel economy; if I drive like an old lady I get 14 MPG in town. But hey, what else did I expect from a full size pickup???

2003 Ford F150 SuperCrew XLT 4.6L from North America

Summary:

Great car like truck!

Faults:

Dealer put wrong differential fluid in and the rear end started making noise right off the bat, but was covered under the warranty and is fine now. Other than the rear end so far the fuse for the O/D and power locks has blown and the CD player hardly works anymore.

General Comments:

The truck runs and drives like a car, very smooth, quiet and has decent power with the 4.6L. The motor is not quite powerful enough to tow with, but is perfect for little loads and get decently gas mileage (about 18 MPG). I installed a Magnaflow exhaust and that seemed to help the power and the gas mileage a little bit. Also installed drop shackles in the rear to level out that high rear-end that Ford is known for.
