Had to replace the brackets that hold the leaf-spring shackles to the frame. They had rusted out and cracked. I did have 3/4 of a ton of bagged cement on it two years ago; I'm sure that didn't help. Also just replaced the serpentine belt that was 9 years old. Other than that, the truck still runs like new. Rust situation isn't too bad.

Another year later and still going. Had the front brakes and lines replaced last fall. Exhaust system is getting close to full replacement (never been touched in 22 years). Passenger side is starting to rust more quickly. The cruise control stopped working a month ago; I hope it is just the pressure switch on the front of the master brake cylinder. Other than this it still runs great. Hope to keep it going until the new Ranger is produced.

Almost two years later and the truck is still going. Put new rear shocks and drums on the rear. The engine starts and runs like new, even in the very cold weather we just had. The truck is vibrating at highway speed, probably due to an unbalanced driveshaft. Had the universals and hanger bearing replaced by some non-experienced mechanics. But it's good enough for in town driving. Looking at the new Ranger, but don't care for their only one motor option (2.3L Ecoboost). Would prefer a small non-turbo V6.

The truck is still being used, but now as a work truck hauling to the dump. Only new part installed was a gas tank hanger strap on the front tank in the last two years. Still runs excellent. Bought a new Tacoma two years ago. Not sure if it will live up to the longevity of 150, only time will tell.

If I were to put money on it, I would say no, your new Tacoma will not outlast or give you the service of the old F150. And I'm not just speaking for Toyota; this also applies to a new F150. Why, because trucks aren't really used as trucks these days like they were in the 90s. They have basically taken the place of large cars for hauling people instead of building materials. Therefore new trucks have a host of convenience and luxury items that are computerized and electronically controlled. Too many things that have potential to fail and cost a lot of money. Technology that was never needed on your older truck. Power windows and locks, A/C and carpeted floors were like an added bonus back then. Also the 5.0 V8 and 4.9 straight 6 engines used in that era were indestructible. Try that with one of the V6 turbo Ecoboost used today.

My 95 was a XL model, only had A/C (Ford has the best, still better than the Taco), and cruise control. No power windows, locks or carpet. I knew I would keep it for long time and didn't need all this breakable technology. Only other vehicle to match the reliability of the 95 F150 is the 94 Toyota Celica. My brother owned one and said it was bullet proof; even Scotty Kilmer agrees. This is why I like this website because it is very accurate when checking for vehicle reliability. It is the unbiased opinions of the vehicle owners. If someone is happy or unhappy with their said auto they definitely let us know.

Yes I like this website too. Helps out tremendously when someone is looking for advice. But every now and then you get the sarcasm like the comment above yours. Oh well.

The Toyota guy is always doom and gloom. However for 43 straight years, the Ford F-150 has been the best-selling pickup truck in America. And for 38 straight years, the F-150 has been the best-selling overall vehicle in America. Sales figures for Ford’s trucks including F-150 and Ranger increased by more than 8 percent as Ford sold almost one million pickup trucks.

Another year later and it is still going strong. A little more rust on the one wheel well, but not bad yet. It past the emissions test with no problems, with the whole original exhaust system still intact. As far as I know, I have never even replaced a light or signal bulb in twenty years. Truly an amazing vehicle.
