1982 Ford Fiesta Popular Plus 1.1 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An excellent car for students!

Faults:

Dodgy radio (original), and the radiator cap would not hold in the pressure. That's all that has gone wrong with the car (so far).

General Comments:

So far I am very pleased with the car, it has only got a little surface rust which isn't bad considering the car will be 20 years old next year! It's also very reliable, starts first time in the mornings. It also makes a very good first car as it is dirt cheap and very reliable.

1982 Ford Fiesta Popular Plus 1.1 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Recommend one to your friends, they'll thank you

Faults:

The seats do not recline (they are not designed to), the heater does not work because of the fan, and even with a new exhaust it sounds like it's got a hole in the exhaust.

General Comments:

The Mark 1 Ford Fiesta is without doubt the best car that I have ever owned. I have owned many cars, but never one as old as this.

The car was purchased for £300 with a new exhaust and tyres. I have owned it for about a year and it has never let me down, I have travelled all over the UK in it, I even went half way across the country with three people in. This might not sound too amazing until you take into consideration the fact that it is only a 1100cc engine equipped with a four speed gearbox and 12 inch wheels.

The car starts everyday first turn of the key and runs (with careful throttle control) without the choke - even in the freezing cold.

It had the sills and front valance replaced before I bought it so it looks a bit scraggy, but I wouldn't swap it for anything, especially taking into consideration the fact that I don't owe a penny on finance and I have a more reliable car than many people get after spending thousands.

1982 Ford Fiesta Bravo 1.1 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Cheap and cheerful

Faults:

Loads of rust on the back wheel arches, around the headlights, sills etc.

Carburettor needs setting up every three weeks.

Driver's seat doesn't tip forward anymore.

General Comments:

Bessie is very reliable and hasn't broken down since I've owned her.

The carburettor doesn't run smooth in wet weather.

Running costs are very cheap.

The interior is now nicer than standard, having been upgraded with Ghia wood trim, door cappings and an XR2 steering wheel.

1982 Ford Fiesta Bravo 1.1 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Needs some cosmetic mods as standard

Faults:

Rust in the floor, round the windows, sills, bumper supports, sun-roof bonnet, engine bay, and doors etc.

Spongey (no) brakes.

General Comments:

Bought as a project car for 95 quid, with a good engine and poor body (I bought it at night).

Can't fault it for reliability, even with a half dead battery.

1982 Ford Fiesta 0.95 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reliable basic transport if slow and noisy

Faults:

Fanbelt snapped, mirrors fell off, instrument and electrical faults, rust, stalling problem cured only by running with the choke out.

General Comments:

Very reliable car, will start first time on cold damp mornings. Good little tin box for getting from A to B. I bought the car for £10 so I can't complain!

1982 Ford Fiesta Supersport 1.3 Kent (Tuned) from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Rolled it.

Wrong grade spark plugs.

General Comments:

Koni suspension was great, lack of rear anti roll bar wasn't, resulted in understeer, hence, crash, sad.

Anyone got a nice clean Mk1 shell they don't want?????

Why no rear anti-roll bar as Supersports have them as standard. I'm currently doing up a Supersport with my mate so if you can't get a shell, can we by some parts off you like the shocks etc?
