1995 Ford Fiesta Si 1.6 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A good eyecatcher

Faults:

Nothing so far, oh yes a light bulb. Two front tyres replaced.

General Comments:

I love it, so does everyone else at 6th form, especially when they get a lift in it! It's comfortable, pretty fast for a 17 year old girl who only passed her test in Jan 2000. And it looks pretty smart and sporty being black with alloys. A bit heavy on fuel though... and insurance!!!

1995 Ford Fiesta 1.8 diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Truly, the most sluggish slug on the road

Faults:

Just about everything possible - it's an instructor car. Biggest problem was a recurring one with the fuel supply - cost almost £1000 in repetitive exploratory work to find the fault, which turned out to be a crack in the fuel pump.

General Comments:

Handling is good for a Ford, power steering is helpful. The engine is a load of pants - some of my pupils call it the gutless wonder, no acceleration at all. The fact that it is diesel does not help. Comfortable inside but as I said, it in desperate need of a turbocharger.

I have a Fiesta 1.8D.

I've had it since I started driving about two years ago and it has never let me down. OK, apart from once when I replaced the clutch and the clutch cable subsequently snapped and left me in the middle of a junction just revving!!

When I bought the car it had 76k and now has 83k, so I haven't covered a lot of distance, but in the 7k it has done, it has never complained.

Granted, if you want to overtake you have to check the wind is behind you and your going down a very steep hill to even attempt it!!!

The main advantage of having the diesel variant though (other than the economy) is that if you have four people in it, it pulls just as well as if there were only two!!

An a little hint for the minor problems that occur, treat it bad!!!My courtesy light stopped working so I gave the switch in the door hinge a good beating and it now works. Also my emissions were too high to pass an MOT so I put the pedal to the metal, revved the nuts off it and hey presto, a cleaner car!!!

Don't knock the mighty fiesta, it'll put up with a lot more than you would expect!!

1995 Ford Fiesta Si 1.6 16V from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Leaking rear boot seal at hinge.

Driver door pin switch failed which confused the alarm system!

General Comments:

Very happy with handling and performance - good fun to drive. Front tyres disappearing at an alarming rate! Can it really be using this much petrol!!!

Love the front seats and everyone comments on how racey they are. Interior is a little bit flimsy but does not detract from an otherwise excellent car. RS trim looks brill.

1995 Ford Fiesta Si 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Power steering.

Exhaust went prematurely.

Timing belt.

Alternator.

Spark plug leads.

Fuel blockage.

Drivers door jammed open.

Alarm packed in.

Paintwork flakey.

Electrics intermittently fail (windows, wash wipe).

Brake discs needed replaced.

Leaky hoses.

Faulty (loose) interior trim.

Rattles from seats.

Front vents stopped working.

I am sure there is more... but

General Comments:

A bloody disaster, if it's not one thing it's another. The service you get from a Ford dealer is the worst of any I have experienced, they are expensive, arrogant, sloppy and rude.

The good news is that at least they are consistent! I had a top of the range Scorpio a few years back and I got treated in the same way. I thought that QS 9000 was supposed to feed into the supply chain?
