2014 Ford Fiesta Style 1.25 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Cheap to run and dependable

Faults:

Service and MOT revealed no advisories, but the car had brake and suspension work before I bought it. No major problems so far however during my one year and 11,000 miles or so of ownership.

General Comments:

These Fiesta's are a little expensive to buy initially as a low mileage used car (all used cars are currently overpriced in my opinion), but once you get a good one costs are as cheap as it gets for running a car. Low tax and insurance, and my 1.25 petrol engine regularly does around 50 mpg. That used to be unheard of for petrol - normally you would need a diesel to get that mpg!

The 1.25 has no performance whatsoever though. Painfully slow. But I would advise against the faster "Eco-boost" engine from this time - they are not as reliable and have turbo issues. You want the naturally aspirated 1.25 engine, trust me. Best for reliability.

The car handles quite sharp. Ride is firm but not uncomfortably so. Style model is lower range and does not have much electrics. Very, very basic. But the seats are comfy enough for long and short journeys.

It's nothing special, but a slightly better car than my previous 2008 Corsa, which rusted like a pig.

In short, if you are after a cheap economical car, it is hard to beat the Fiesta, providing you buy a low mileage looked after car.

2014 Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.25 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Gets you where you need to go

Faults:

Not much other than the usual wear and tear. I service the car on time. Dash is a little rattly, and the A/C no longer blows ice cold.

General Comments:

A cheap to run reliable small car, the Fiesta has always been a good car. My 2014 model still feels very modern and I want to keep it as long as possible.

Nothing special to drive but cruises just fine on an open road, and about town is nippy and easy to park.

Zetec is a mid range spec, plenty of equipment for this car's class.

Really hard to fault this car, simple, modern, reliable, and never let me down.

2014 Ford Fiesta Studio 1.25 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Frugal transport

Faults:

Not much to go wrong so long as you service these cars on time. Suspension was an advisory at last MOT, but nothing serious.

General Comments:

"Studio" Fiesta is probably the most basic Fiesta you can get. Electric windows up front, that is it. Wheel trims, looks very dull in matte blue.

Interior is the same, dull and grey, seats not the most comfortable on longer journeys.

1.25 is pretty slow, but you will get around 47 - 50 mpg. Handles OK though.

I have come to like it despite how boring it is. Very cheap to run - essential in these tough times. If you want a basic reliable car, look no further. If you want excitement, look elsewhere.

My thoughts are the same on my Fiesta, I have a similar one. It is not going to be the most exciting car, but it is pretty much the best all round small hatch currently available to buy used.

2014 Ford Fiesta Titanium 1.0 Ecoboost PowerShift from Belgium

Summary:

Very good all-rounder

Faults:

I have been driving it for a year, so nothing really.

General Comments:

The Fiesta had a tough job. It had to replace my beloved 147. Except for the more expensive seats and the rear view camera (on a Fiesta, come on), I have all the options. The engine is impressive, although too slow for me (the Alfa was a 2.0). I drove it nearly a year and I did an engine remap to increase its power from 100 to 142 and the torque from 170 to 260. Needless to say, it moves now and it transformed the car.

The gearbox is OK I guess. Miles better of course than my old Selespeed, but under power and high revs, it can make some very strange noises. My dealer said it's normal, because it's a dry gearbox (or something).

It uses a lot of fuel though, I am at an average of 7.5L (32 MPG). For a three cylinder with Eco in its name... My now 15 year old Alfa used only 1 litre of petrol more with an engine twice as big.

The optional sat nav is dreadful, and I picked the most expensive stereo on the option list (Sony) and it does not meet my expectations (granted, my 147 had a Bose system).

The optional styling kit looks great (spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser, front splitter, the lot).

In Belgium, the road tax is based on engine size, so I pay nearly nothing at 1.0 (I paid 3 times more for my 2.0, don't ask about a Viper over here... 16500 euros in the first year since you ask, but I digress :) )

As small cars go, I believe the Fiesta is probably the best.

They are about as good as it gets for basic transport but are decent cars. Watch the auto-box at higher mileage though - everyone I know who has an automatic Fiesta has had trouble with the auto-box at higher mileage, old and newer models.
