And what about the Renault 5 GT Turbo? That's like a cat with a rocket up it's rear. Gimme an RS any day though, reliable, respectable fun.

The main thing is that most people who own these cars now are enthusiasts or Ford lovers. They have the car because it is going to be a future classic or they have always wanted one.
I have an Escort RS and have wanted one since I was 8 now I have one I will be rebuilding it.

I'd have to disagree with you there, the Astra looks horrible, whats with the vacuum cleaner exhaust attachment?
Surely Vauxhall could have thought of something better in there flagship hatch?
And then theres the handling, the focus st will run rings around this, poor chassis, same with the larger and even worse Vectra VXR too!
Fiesta rs turbo is old school and while not having the straight line performance of the astra it looks ten times better and has bags more character.

A crx vtec would spank the fiesta rs turbo and all the other hot hatches of the early 90's.

I don't doubt it mate, the CRX has nearly 30 more hp and is a bit lighter (therefore better power to weight)
However, it is a coupe not a hot hatch so is in a different class, so if were looking a different class then you need to look at other coupe's from the early 90;s to compare.
Anyway the fiesta looks 10 times the car the tinny bland looking CRX does.

As a poser of a driver, I only really care about how good a car looks and how fast it is, which is why I own a 292bhp Audi TT.
As a neutral, I think the VXR is a beautiful looking car, spoilt only by the Vauxhall badge. As for brilliant handling and whatever, yes its very useful on a track, but hardly anyone goes to tracks. The Astra VXR has massive amounts of grip and is more than useable on the road. No doubt you have seen the Top Gear review of the VXR which is why your saying that. Seeing as though your going off what Top Gear say, it might interest you to learn that the Astra VXR was faster round their track than the Golf r32, the Golf GTI, and it was nearly 2 seconds faster than the Focus ST, and it was over 3 seconds faster than the Civic Type R, so it is obviously a match for all of the competition.
However I will agree that the Vectra VXR is like a shopping trolley on ice. However the Astra VXR is a completely different animal, the second best hot hatch on the market as an overall package, only the new Audi S3 is better.

If your talking about the fastest hatch in the rs turbo's class, then would the saxo vts not be a very close match for the rs turbo?, in terms of both acceleration and top speed.
I think it might well be.
