The commenter must live in a Tokyo suburb. None of our Ford dealers has had a 2009 Fusion in months, nor can they keep ANY 2010's. My friend went shopping for a Fusion in September. They wanted a 2009 to save money. No dealer within a 50-mile radius had ANY 2009's, and our four local dealerships combined had a total of only 5 2010's. At the present time finding a Fusion or Focus here is very difficult. Accords and Camrys are sitting on both new car lots and Ford lots after being traded for the top-selling Fusions.

To comment 8:34.

THANK YOU! It's so relieving to see that there really are people out there who see the whole picture.

So, I saw a guy picking up illegal aliens this morning for work as they do on every corner in the town next to me. He was driving a Ford pickup.

According to people posting on this site, he is more patriotic using illegal aliens for his labor, taking jobs and other resources from hard working Americans, than I am driving my Honda to my legitimate job with my legitimate SS#.

See how ridiculous this argument is? Can we just rate the cars please and leave the politics at the door?

Unless the NY metro area has moved to Japan, not so much! Just did a fresh search and found over 50 2009 brand new Fusions within about a minute. Okay, if there is a 10 or 20% margin of error there are still at least 30 or 40 of them.

2010's are very prevalent as well with one dealer stocking 18 of them. Maybe it's you who lives in some far away country?? You can get ANY Fusion you want within an hour of searching around here... even down to the color of your choice.

To come on here and make claims that such a popular car is impossible to get is pretty easy to call you on. And, no I am not just relying on the internet. The last time I looked at Fords, which was very recently, their dealers were very vigilant about taking sold cars off of the web. They had every last one of the cars I researched online sitting on their lot.

And, never have I seen more than a couple of Honda's or Toyota's on a Ford dealers lot and they would only be there is they were exceptional examples in mint condition. I used to sell cars and believe me, even if they were being traded in, they would immediately be wholesaled off as the Ford Dealers don't want imports sitting on their lots. It looks bad when you carry a lot of stock in an opposing brand (especially an import on a domestic lot) and it is hard to sell a car that no one is looking for or expecting to be at a Ford dealer.

The only answer to your claim is you are out in the middle of nowhere and your dealer is not a very strong one, or maybe they just don't know how to do business in cars.

"So now destroying American industries is "what is best" for our families??"

Surely you must be in politics. You twist and distort everything to make everyone who does not agree with you some kind of subversive anti-American.

Well we are not - but if my neighbor drives a Honda instead of a Ford Fusion (which isn't even made in this country, by the way), it does not make him less patriotic than you.

So let's see.

1. Good for GM. They shouldn't need my support then should they?

2. Let's see Domestics do this for 25 years in a row... then we'll talk.

3. The Corvette is ranked so high because it is a bargain, not so much as it is a better performance car. Performance to dollar ratio is the best on the Corvette. Most Ferrari shoppers wouldn't even look at a Vette as a comparison.

4. The last time I checked the CTS you spoke of was at least into the $50K range. An M3 BMW is only around $15K more than that, and an M5 maybe $25K to $30K more... not quite the twice as expensive figures you quoted...

5. Yes Ford builds the Fusion... in Mexico so it really doesn't benefit U.S. workers much does it?

6. The "confidence" you speak of is really the "marketing knowhow" to copy the brands such as Hyundai and Kia that have had 100K mile warranties for years now, making their sales explode. Domestic cars had no choice but to extend their warranties... to sell cars. It has nothing to do with their confidence.

7. Not true. If you figure in the resale values of an import in real world numbers, not KBB numbers the import will command much more on resale then any domestic. The only way you can counter this is to buy a domestic that is heavily discounted with rebates and low rates. Then it makes more sense to go with the similarly reliable domestic.

Any other points you'd like to make?

And make no mistake about it, your domestic car companies are the ones who have destroyed themselves...not the import buyers. Had they had better management and insight into the changing industry they might have fared better. But NOOOO, they were too busy raking in the huge profits from their gas guzzling SUV's right up until the rug got pulled out from under them when gas hit $4+ per gallon. They created their own problems by being too greedy and thinking the American Dream of huge cars and excessive spending would go on for ever. Shame on them for that... why should I be expected to pick up the pieces?

7:59 They could also be his relatives or in laws. Assuming is not always factual regardless of what you perceive to be true. It's the new domestic vehicle that benefits not who the driver is. I know a hispanic business owner that drives 4 new GM vans for commercial painting. Appreciate he is assisting where his business is derived from.

Please see comment 22:29 for the whole truth. There seems to be an incredible amount of confusion about who benefits from buying from U.S. industries. Please get the FACTS before advocating the destruction of our economy, please.

Relatives or in-laws don't stand on every other street corner looking for work. Illegal immigrants are a huge problem around here.

23rd Oct 2009, 09:25

Yeah, a guy in a Ford pickup picking up a group of foreigners on a random street corner and they are his relatives. Are you a politician?

Just goes to show people will do anything to prove their argument on patriotism. I could also argue that the Honda driver may have bought his car used at a Chevy dealer, so why is that unpatriotic?

To me it is more of a problem that someone is using illegal aliens to work for them, taking jobs away from Americans (and benefits, social security, property, etc.) then it is for someone to drive a Honda that they paid for legally within their rights as an American citizen.

This is the problem in this country though. People think that buying a Honda is a bigger crime against the U.S. than using illegal aliens to do your labor and save you money is. I was merely trying to prove the point that it is ludicrous to state that one is unpatriotic by the car they choose to drive, and here we are in an entirely different argument. Geez!!
