1998 Ford Ka 3 1.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

What I wanted, but overpriced when I brought it!

Faults:

Faulty air conditioning drain pipe that soaked the carpets.

Air circulation flaps failed. No problem to fix other than the labour charges (40% paid for by Ford).

General Comments:

What I wanted and expected.

Aircon is very good.

MPG 43.7 motorway and A roads, 30,000 miles per year.

Could be quieter, active noise reduction.

Regarding fuel consumption figures - when driven with fuel economy in mind I can regularly get the car to return a genuine 47mpg when driven over a mix of A roads and Motorways.

1998 Ford Ka Design 1.3 from Finland

Faults:

Rattle from dash board, fixed by the dealer.

General Comments:

Solid, fun to drive. Build quality is good. The car could use less fuel. So far I am happy with the car.

1998 Ford Ka 2 1.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Occasional slight ticking noise from the engine when accelerating.

General Comments:

Handles like a dream, especially on corners.

Very nippy until you get to 70, after which the acceleration is bit lack luster.

Great for city driving and comfortable for long trips.

Very comfortable inside and all features are easy to use.

The only major gripe is the boot is very small and doesn't have a light.

Lots of fun to drive.

I'm very interested about the intermittent ticking noise mentioned. My wife's recently purchased a KA2 that has these symtoms, sometimes quite severe but it never effects performance.

Is it a problem with the pre-programmed ignition or perhaps one of the associated sensors? Can anyone help me here please? She is getting desperate and the local Ford dealer she purchased it from hasn't a clue what to do about it.

It only ever happens after a couple of miles running (warming up) and usually when accelerating gently under load. Stops immediately you release the accelerator.

1998 Ford Ka 2 1.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing major to date - the door seals leak (to be fixed by the dealer) and I suspect a leak in the rear window seal. Other than that no problems.

General Comments:

Beautiful car, lots of features for the price; nippy if you're the driving alone, struggles a bit otherwise; a few nice touches and a few stupid omissions like a boot light and a rev counter.

Ford dealer (Chiltern Ford, High Wycombe) was appalling and certainly will never be getting my business again.

1998 Ford Ka 1.3 petrol from Finland

Faults:

The rock shower from the front tyres wears out the paint under the door.

General Comments:

It is so great to drive and it works very well in the Finnish winter.

I am very happy with my Ka.

1998 Ford Ka 1 1.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

When I first had the car I noticed a ticking noise from the engine. Which soon turned to a mild knocking. The main dealers have requested that they may have for further investigation.

Plus a noisy clutch release bearing.

General Comments:

Drives lovely. But when you have a problems with a new car it tends to put you off. And I have only had the car less than a week!

1998 Ford Ka 3 1.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing so far. Seems quite well built.

General Comments:

Handling is excellent - steering (with PAS) is very direct, and they've even fitted decent tyres from new.

Really nice design touches everywhere - it's good to see a mainstream manufacturer making an effort.

Needs more power, but I still love it.

1998 Ford Ka 3 1.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Major water "leak". Diagnosed by dealer as problems with air conditioning installation: condensation drain pipe not fitted and bulkhead blank not removed.

OK now, but carpets were soaked and not cleaned.

1998 Ford Ka 1 1.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

We imported this car ourselves from a Belgian Main Ford dealer (Vandersmissen in Gent) - after initial worries about everything being as it should (i.e. UK specification), nothing has gone wrong!

General Comments:

Very positive ride - handling reminiscent of my first car - a Mini. My mother didn't like them until she took a drive in mine - now she's ordering one!!
