2016 Ford Mondeo ST-Line Estate 2.0 TDCi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Very nice!

Faults:

Basically nothing in the year and a half I have been driving it.

General Comments:

It is hard to get excited about a family estate car, but this Mondeo has surprised me in every way. Great to look at, nice to drive, whilst still being economical.

ST-Line is a great trim level. Electronic everything and sporty styling and seats. Love the black/grey look interior with red stitching. Lots of space inside.

Black metallic paintwork on the outside, powder grey alloy wheels, rear window tint, really looks great.

2.0 TDCI has a nice balance of power and economy. I have no problem overtaking anything, while getting a genuine 55 - 60 mpg. The car feels a little softer than the old Mondeo but is still very sharp in the handling department compared to rivals in this class.

So to finish, if you want a reliable family estate car but still want to enjoy driving, check out the ST-Line Mondeo.

2016 Ford Mondeo Titanium 2.0 TDCi turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Not as dull as it looks

Faults:

Other than servicing and wear + tear items such as tyres and brake pads, basically nothing. Wouldn't expect anything less at such a low mileage (have ran older Mondeo's to over 100K) so don't expect anything. Cosmetically the stone chips on the front are looking bad for a car only 5 years old, but I do a lot of motorway driving. Driver's seat also a little saggy, but I am not the lightest person!

General Comments:

The modern Ford Mondeo introduced around 2014 is all one could ever want in a run of the mill car. Looks good when you look hard at it (mine is black with massive alloy wheels) and the interior is a nice place to be. Compared to my last car, a Vauxhall Insignia, there is little between these cars now. The Mondeo was always regarded as better, and I would agree, this car is just much more fun to drive.

2.0 TDCi is the one to go for. Forget the smaller units, they are OK but for the slightly better economy you lose a lot of performance. This 2.0 is by no means a sporty fast car, but plenty of power is on tap when you need it, and you can still expect around 60 miles per gallon daily driving. Handling is also very tight.

Interior is dull with black plastic everywhere. I could also complain about the stop start/key-less/electronic handbrake etc etc as a lot of people do on modern cars. To be honest they are no big deal once you are used to them. Titanium model is near range topper and has all the electric stuff you would expect.

Got a great deal on mine from an approved used dealer, though the after care is poor and expensive, they want you back for servicing that can be done elsewhere just as good with quality parts for cheaper. Since mine is out of warranty I'll be looking elsewhere for repairs and servicing.

In conclusion if you want a modern car that is reliable and easy on the eye, and you can find a local independent for repairs, the Mondeo is and always has been a safe bet, providing you buy a looked after example and keep looking after it.

I agree with your comments. I have the 1.5 diesel; still enough power when needed and good fuel economy. But agree the 2.0 is the better one.

2016 Ford Mondeo Turnier Titanium 2.0 TDCI from Germany

Summary:

Decent, good looking and practical, happy so far

Faults:

Audio system sometimes fails to load (only for radio etc).

Stop and start not working. According to manual it can be due to low external temperature, engine cold, weak battery etc etc.

General Comments:

Comfortable car, plenty of power for everyday driving. Lots of room for driver, passengers and your things, this being an estate body style. Extremely practical. Looks great in front, not so great from the back. LED lights are GREAT.

It has a superb driving feel, very direct and agile, and you feel the size of the car only when parking. Parking sensors do not inspire confidence, as they sometimes feel too sensitive and sometimes they don't sound until you are very close to something.

It feels most at home on the autobahn. You can achieve amazing consumption figures if you don't mind keeping to the right lane below 120 km/h, but even driving 140 - 150 km/h will not "break the bank". I don't care for higher speeds.

Built in navigation is very good, but I have to find a way to update maps. Android auto works nicely with this media system (Sync 3). Pairing my Huawei P Smart was not a problem at all. Sound is also nice, not really sure about the number of speakers and brand. It sounds powerful and well defined.

Manual transmission feels solid and precise, a pleasure to use it. There's no unnecessary movement or wobbling in the lever.

Seats are firm but never uncomfortable. It would be nice if there were thigh extensions. I'm 200 cm tall and have long legs, I would love 3cm more of seat travel to the back, but it is OK as it is.

OP here, just to say that I resolved all issues with the media/navigation system by applying the latest available update. You can do the update yourself, but you need to follow specific instructions and download ~30GB of data, in two stages.

The car is great, no issues. Done about 6000 km already, average consumption is ~5.5l/100km, which is amazing for such a big car. I try to minimize the number of short trips, and use the car mostly for long distances.
